just got my gp2x and I'm still playing around with it and learning how to use it. i don't know if anybody has posted this info before, but I thought it could be useful:

While inside the music player, you can press "select". This turns off the LCD screen and puts the gp2x into a "button lock" mode. While in the "button lock" mode, all button presses will be ignored, except the "select" button. Pressing the "select" button again will exit the "button lock" mode. The cool thing is that while in "button lock" mode, the music will continue to play and you can save batteries since the LCD is off.

While in the main menu, you can press "down" on the joystick to select the highlighted option. When I say "down" I mean pressing down so that the joystick "clicks".

I find it annoying that you can only use left and right on the joystick to move around the main menu. It would be much simpler and quicker if you could also use up and down on the joystick to move around.

Yeah, I think this is pretty much common knowledge now. I do agree with you on the left/right menu issue though.

Although I wonder if anyone how much power is being used in this "low power" mode compared to normal use.

Is there some way to open a list of files (instead of having to select one file, listen it, select another, listen it, etc...)?

Thanks for that. I hadn't heard about that feature

Hopefully it also shuts off the 2nd core and turns down the mhz on the 1st, as well as turning off the TV out chip and etc.

i have most of my music in one directory, so the gp2x will play all the songs in a directory after selecting one.

It uses ~300ma with the screen off and ~500 with the screen on.
however this should go future down in comeing versions when the clock the 1st core down and disable the second one and the tv chip.
As compairsion, gp32 uses 300ma.

And if you press the shoulder buttons while a track is playing, you can skip through them...
