Backtrack

Do you mean Backtrack, the Linux distribution? If so, then its a distribution (an OS), so is a fair amount of work to get up and going in a useful fashion. ie: With a currently small installed userbase, and a niche niche sort of thing, you're not likely to see much effort in that direction anytime soon.

If you mean something else, then.. don't know :)

Neopwn a Backtrack build for mobile devices.
Sadly it is a paying beta (that is not even available) for now. However, in the future, it should work without much of a hassle as it is working right now under the N900.

We shall see how much time will they take before they release it for free.

Thanks guys, I was also thinking about just installing the tools, but I'm not too sure how :p

I wonder if the Pandoras wifi chip is compatible too, or will I have my adapter sticking out of the back...

The people from Neopwn says they have a "exclusive" driver for the n900 (which is, if I recall correctly, the same as the pandora's) that supports injection, monitoring and all sorts of stuff.
The reason why I say, "exclusive" (note the quotation marks), is because the mac802.11 stack supports such features, with all the drivers on top of it by default and I'm under the impression that pandora's wl1251 chipset driver was no different, instead of IEEE802.11 where each driver have to be patched to make them compatible.

The tools for, ahem, auditoring wifi networks are available on the angstrom repository, so it is as simple as a "sudo opkg install aircrack-ng" and trying out its features and see if everything works.

Ah, fiddlesticks.
I've been reading a little bit more (as I'm too interested) and apparently monitor mode is severely gimped with channel hopping not working, and limited to channel 6 (I think) and injection unusable, courtesy of the chipset firmware.

So perhaps, Neopwn driver really is necessary. Lets hope they release the driver for free, once they are done.

I guess until they release the thing you can get yourself one of these xD . As long as the drivers are there, or else, you'll have to wait a bit more for the kernel update.

I have a compatible adapter already (well, works with Linux just fine so I assume it should on the Pandora...), so that might be sticking out the back of my Pandora until that neopwn driver is released :D

I'll be trying some rmmod and insmod fun in the next few days to see if I get get it to work, I have the drivers. I'm thinking it wont work without the kernel that accompanies the package. Will post if any success with a quick howto.

Thanks! :) Let's hope it works...

Yes, definitely going to require the kernel. I'll have to learn how to compile one and hope it works. Wish I could share the modules with someone of talent to compare my efforts. :(

Then, share it with yourself :)

It's a matter of time to read on compiling a kernel and getting it right. Then I'll try to build it with the modules inside it. I'd like to hear that it is possible before I blindly run down this road and walk off a cliff realizing it just wont work. ;)

Could someone please edit the title of this thread? Given the anatomical meaning of the word "tract", the involuntary smirk I have every time this thread pops up in the list is starting to get embarrassing. Sorry for the OT... ;-)

On topic on the topic but not topical.

I have tried it with the current pandora wireless driver and channelhopping seems to work fine, injection not so much.
