Playful/Fascist Mod
Hope you're still here, because I have some very good suggestions (in my opinion)...
Shining Force: Game Gear Edition - It's another entry in the series. Not as impressive as the Genesis Shining Forces, but it holds true to the dynamics.
Crystal Wars / Venus Wars (GG/SMS) - Tactical RPG on Game Gear and SMS (called Venus Wars on SMS) that you probably never knew existed.
Military Madness (PCE): Perhaps the ultimate 8-bit tactical RPG, I have a friend who's thoroughly addicted to this game. It's for the PCEngine, also known as the Turbografx 16, and runs perfectly.
Chaos World (NES) - Need an English translation patch, has 99% translated. Pretty cool game, but battles can get repetitive. Thankfully, Little John has a "turbo" option - just hold down the L button (Left Shoulder).
Dragon Warrior 1&2 Remake (GBC) - I actually think these are better then the originals on NES.
Dragon Warrior 3 Remake (GBC) - Excellent remake! Lots of new features. Dragon Warrior 3 makes use of a very cool "class" system (implemented before FF3 I think) where you can change your companions class.
Dragon Warrior 4 (NES) - Ever played this? You should. If you have, try an All-Mage party (Nina, Cristo, Mara, Brey). It's a lot of fun!
Final Fantasy 1 (WSC) - Get the translation patch for the Wonderswan Colour version of Final Fantasy 1 for better graphics. While the story and music are very nostalgic, they aren't really THAT great.
Final Fantasy 2 (WSC) - Unlike the Final Fantasy 1 remake for Wonderswan Colour, this remake actually has a translation patch that also translates all dialogue! I strongly recommend this version over the original NES version (which would need a translation patch anyway).
Final Fantasy 3 (NES) - Get the translation patch. Play this game. Story sucks, but the Job system is VERY cool! Change your four characters classes, gain stats based on your job system, build the ultimate characters!
Mother Zero Neoforce Hack (NES) - This is actually a dump of a Nintendo prototype with an English translation. So it has that nice Nintendo feel to it! This is the prequel to Earthbound, which is "Mother" in Japan.
Earthbound (SNES): Runs great on OpenSNES9xGp! This is one of the rare RPGs that has a very low FPS requirement, so you can even pump up the Framskip to something like 5 FS and still not notice much change in the graphics! But really, you can keep it at about 2-4 FS on 133Mhz WITH sound.
Soulblazer (SNES): Might be able to get away with running this at 133MHz with sound. First in the Soulblazer trilogy, interesting story, good gameplay.
Illusion of Gaia (SNES): Bring extra batteries. Run this at 166MHz (with sound). VERY good story, interesting RPG/Adventure style gameplay. Second in the Soulblazer trilogy.
Terranigma (SNES): Bring extra batteries. Run this at 166MHz (with sound). Even better story, all kinds of interesting stuff (build up towns, buy your own apartment! review on this site), full RPG/Adventure style gameplay with experience system. Third and final in the Soulblazer trilogy.
Chrono Trigger (SNES): It can be rather painful to run this even at 166MHz with sound, but if you can overclock higher then 166MHz then you're in luck. Do I even need to say why you should play this?
Zelda: Link to the Past (SNES): Some people say this is unplayable, but I have no trouble at 166MHz with sound with the correct frameskip. Just bring extra batteries!!
Hope that helps
