Amazons game console.

That's what happens when people who know nothing about games try to create gaming things.

...and SIX light emitting diodes by looks of it, can't think what for though

Hmmm... Looks familiar, but even more ugly!

Sony had a joint venture with nintendo, which has been in games since forever.

Dont think the controller looked too bad, apart from the gloss.
you dont know the story or what? Sony was just doing a cd drive with nintendo. they only staryed the console project once nintendo fucke with them. Nintendo had nothing to do at all with the design of the playstation.

@Sidetopic: Yep, there even was a CD version of Secret of Mana in the making for this SNES-CD-Thingie and in some parts of the game, you notice, that something is missing (some orbs for weapon upgrades to the max f.e.).

@Main: Amazon managed to establish their eBook-reader due to lack of proper competition (Kobo still has its flaws) although you need Calibre to make it a bit more open,

I see no reason why they shouldn't be succesful with this. The Controller looks like function over form style and if they manage to get the software right, their big consumer circle may buy it, although I think, that the Steam machine will take a lot of the market share in the future, because it already has an awesome catalogue of games and an innovative controller that actually seems to work.

The times were gamers need a shelve or wardrobe for their collection is over anyway, appartments in the west get smaller and more expensive all the time and since you need to register and download console games or parts of it now too, the differences are getting incredibly small.

I surely don't want to make an other company making a game console.

Nintendo Sony and Microsoft are far enough.

There are lots of games you can 't play if you don't own all of them.

Don't need one more console that splits up gaming market more than it is already.

Hmm, what consequences to you think that this has?

I don't see any. You buy games you like for the system you like, only multiplayer may be affected.

I am currently having a blast with "Steel Storm" for Linux from today's deal on IndieGameStand and do not think, that a console more or less out there will make any difference to me. oO

In fact, I think that more Android and Steam gaming results in even more proper Linux ports and that's a good thing, because some fine DRM-free stuff always gets through to my old PC. :)

Can't hurt. Developers will more often invest in cross platform engines, make more Android games with support for proper controls and everyone benefits.

With literally tens of thousands of games being released every year there are games you can't play because it is physically/temporally impossible to play them all. If you even just stick to the dozens of genuinely good games (per genre), unless your full time job is playing video games you still will never run out.So a game that looks interesting comes out on PlayBox90 and I don't own one, big deal. I'll just cry myself to sleep over this mountain of other awesome games I'm already playing, using the heaps of yet unreleased games as my security blanket.

The problem is when you dont like so many of those games that comes out, then if one of the very few your interested in is on another console it becomes a big price to pay for a single game...

If your tastes are such that only very elusive things can satisfy them, I'm very happy that I don't have to cook for you ;)

honestly I'm far more interested to get a cheap steambox and play with some of my 250+ games for nothing more...

I'm still hoping they'll produce some streaming only cheap ARM steambox but well... one of the cheapest x86 based steambox would also do...

Even if I had a say in this, it will most likely not be supported here. When I bought the first kindle fire, the amazon app store didn't accept non-US credit cards.... not that I'll get this console anyway.  -_-
