Adult Games

I hope people realize that an "adult" game is not the same as "porn" or a "porn" game, which is what most people seem to be discussing here. (and if the latter is the desired topic, than the headline should be changed imo).

Creating a sensible adult game requires a lot of thought and effort actually, if it is not done with the right intention it will end up bland and stupid. Just like nude photography, if you don't do it properly it will just look like porn, which is a BIG difference.

(watch the video B-Zar posted if you have not already)

On that note, I have yet to see a good adult homebrew game.
i guess it depends on the definition of adult. i tend to distinguish "games rated 18+" from "games with some kind of sexual content" partly because of general social attitudes towards video game rating, but also because i was playing games like quake, duke nukem 3D, carmageddon and other more "adult rated" games when i was 12 or 13. its just the way it is.

Child porn involving real children is illegal... but if it's all drawn, it's all legal.
I am not a lawyer, but two things about this:

  1. 'Legal' is in the eye of the lawmakers of the jurisdiction
  2. Many jurisdictions have deemed 'depictions' of child rape and the viewing/possession thereof etc to be illegal.

Foxblock is right in saying that 'adult' does not necessarily equal 'porn', but despite the title the thread appears to have been spawned from the idea of 'a very immature yet very innovative mammary simulation minigame', so perhaps 'adult'='porn' is the thrust (fnar fnar) of AquaAnalogue's question.

Well, teach me to do my research... :p derp

It seems so intuitive to me that drawn child porn would be legal, I figured the rest of the free world was on the same page. Guess not :/

Actually I find games like "Don't take it personally, babe, it just ain't your story" rather distrubing ... more than I would an adult "nub-wiggle-game".

I see no reason to ban such games from the Pandora and/or the download pages though (as long as it's legal anywhere else). I guess the Pandora is aimed at an older audience anyway. The games should at least contain a warning on the download site though ... or get their own category (even though this would attract the kids even more to this kind of games I guess  )

As long as the game description mentions 'adult content', I see no reason to not allow it. Comes with openness I would say.

That said, I certainly hope it will not come to the point that content needs to be screened and rated before it is allowed to be uploaded. If people don't like the content, then don't download it.

Adult games, under the definition I had in my head, is any game including sexual themes. It could be a perfectly elaborate dating sim with sex scenes and deep relationships between characters, or it could be Vegeta Does Sailor Moon While Eurobeat Music Plays.

This. You know, ratings and parental discretion warnings, et cetera, are all just sheltering children from the world they'll eventually be a part of anyway. Once parents learn to embrace their children's human nature and not try to fight it, the world will be a better, less censored, more open place.

Yes, but for some idiotic reason, people who believe a certain way feel it necessary to step on people's perfectly normal curiosities. As a result, the normal curiosities develop into weird fantasies, which in turn develop into sick obsessions, which in turn continue to grow. Eventually the person snaps and commits a heinous crime against the innocence of a real child. This entire process is sad and cruel to both parties, and it is the direct result of stubborn hyper-conservatives throwing their weight around and doing what they perceive to be "the Lord's work".

Amen to that. :)

Now see, that shouldn't even have to factor into it. The point is that no one is harmed in the making of it. With freedom always comes excess, and one just needs to tolerate what others do with their freedom, as long as no one is harmed.

Now, they would argue that these works of art/porn would incite users to harm real children. Even if this were clearly true (it's not clearly true), that's a can of worms they should be afraid to open:

"A man was incited by the words of Glenn Beck to kill a congresswoman. Therefore, ban talk-radio!"

"A man was incited to steal a television after the store unexpected raised its price. Therefore, ban all markups!"

If you can find the flaws in these arguments, you can find the flaws in the former.

Sigh... I'm not going to get involved in this argument. My soul will collapse in on itself. I just want to say this:

We should have some sort of warning for 18+ content. That's it.

Also....

I'm fully in support of more 'openly adult' software for the Pandora. I had honestly never thought of the nubs in this way... but now I'm keen to become more intimately acquainted with my... uh... 'nubs' ;) Gosh, they even sound naughty!

... and we have two of them. How... perfect.

I've visualizing a simple simulation right now.

I'll bet you are. Heh. We at the boards have corrupted you and made you one of our own!!!

Good show. *sigh* They grow up so fast

Can an "18+" tag (tag, not simply part of the description) be part of a PXML?

This. This is a very very good idea. Just a flag saying "This app is naughty." These apps could be hidden with one click, and for a package to be accepted into the repositories, it would have to be set if the product contained even a miniscule amount of titty.

EDIT:

Now now... I still maintain I'd rather play with my Pandora than an actual person... at least for now.

Ah; then perhaps you are one of the world's first male
objectum-sexuals?

Ridiculous. Breasts don't make a program 18+. Half of the population has them, get over it.

Such a tag is completely useless unless there is an enforcement (read: content verification process) of uploaded PNDs. Good luck trying to find somebody willing to do that. Assuming we consider the willingness of authors to cooperate on self-censorship and we could find a common-ground on what constitutes 18+ content (e.g. here in the Netherlands nobody cares if you show breasts on television at noon) then the description is sufficient to state that fact.

Finally, let's not start drafting specifications for barely or non existing content. Do we have any X-rated content at all?

I suggest that the proportion becomes rather less if you consider the Pandora-owning population. :p

There is most definitely an emotional relationship going on here, and I treat her with love and tenderness. She has the left side of the bed. I'm on the right. I even gave her my favorite pillow. o.o (I'm not kidding)

I suffer no illusions that the feelings are reciprocated though.

Have you named her?

I've decided to name mine Kaede (closest Anglicised pronunciation: ky-day), meaning "maple". I give all my computers the Japanese names of female anime characters I like, and the Pandora is no different.

My laptop is Asuka; my desktop/server was (*sniff*... :( ) Mitsuki. These names function not only as their hostnames on my network but also as a means to emotionally identify them to me.

People personify animals which are instinct-driven and have no observable feelings back for them; I see no reason why I cannot personify my Pandora.

I have a number of what humans would call imaginary friends. To me they are very real and exist in a certain reality that is special to me. If I ever name anything it is to invoke the presence of one of these creatures. For instance, I have a small smooth egg-shaped clear quartz crystal that allows me to better commune with Shey (my sister and guiding light).

My Pandora is simply ... Pandora. I've only vaguely seen the creature that is representative of her in that other reality. I haven't really connected with her yet and gotten to know her on that level (I've been in a bad space for quite some time and thus have been stuck in this reality). When I do meet her properly I'm sure she'll inform me as to her true name/names.
