8 Character Limit

gpdrive DOES ignore the 8.3 limit.
run it on your gp, then plug the usb cable and your gp becomes a removable media then you can dragdrop files with any filename length to your gp.
 
Well, it ignores the limit (kind of) but you'll never see the entire name on the GP32 (except in Frodo, which somehow reads them) - just, say, if your file was called "Ultimate Stunts 1997.bin" it'd be displayed as "Ultima~1.bin" - or ~2 if there was another file that shared the first 6 letters. Same as if you type dir in Dos 7 or earlier...
 
just like when using a smc writer/reader :)

and the hacked pc-link actually renames everything, while phodrive/smcwriter do he job better, since the leave the name as is and under an PC OS you will still see the full name :)
