3d Stereo Glasses

Whats a good but yet reasonable card from Nvidia that does Doom 3 at atlest medium really good??
I wanted to get into these, but have to change cards first, damn u ATI!!!

~Octavious

edit
would the FX 5900 ultra be a good card?
or should I bite the bullet and get a 6800 nu?? ( thats the standard one )

The 5900 might be ok but bear in mind you get a 30% ish performance hit from running stereo glasses due to the extra work the driver and card have to do to seperate the images.

Well.....

I hope someone can help me (Tobriand?)

These glasses are great, BUT, I'm having problems.

I'm getting the flashing problem, where every few aseconds, the glasses drop out and I get a flash of brightness for a few frames, then it goes back to 3d.

So......  I tried EVERYTHING on EVERY forum I could find, invcluding driver combinations, disabling/removing hardware, IRQ settings, and so on and so forth, all with no luck.

So then, I tries the Activator utility, and wahay! NO more flashing!

BUT - now the view in the eyes swaps back and forth randomly.  So I can be going along and suddenly the right hand view is in the left eye and vice versa.  Makes your head go weird I tell you!  So I looked this up, and apparently, this can generally be solved by the same things, so I tried them all again, and still no change :(

I'm getting pissed off now, and really like using these glasses,  and to be honest, would much prefer to put up with flashing than eye-swapping problem.

If anyone at all can help me out by suggesting stuff, I'd really appreciate it (BTW, they are wireless and I have changed the batteries too...).

HELP!

My mate had this problem and it was because his hard drives were running as pio not dma.

I get a few flashes myself but not many. Defragging helped quite a lot and I only seem to get them now during loading which doen't bother me.

Alternatively go here click on the discussion board on the right hand side and search for "fix white flashes" in the support topic. There are lot's of posts and one may help.

Got them working. Wow!

This is brilliant, pity Halo doesn't work too well with them though.

EDIT: Is it just me or is it very hard to get games to work with these? I usually end up seeing double if I don't get the seperation exactly right, plus BattleField just plain won't work.

Are the lights in the lenses supposed to flash?

Also could someone reccomend a low end game to try?

Keep the seperation setting low. Start at about 20 - 25 % .Once you are used to that increase it by 5 % per day. I can now play most games at 45 - 50 % no problem.

Soldier of fortune is a decent low end game.

thats crazy for that old of a Direct X 7 card!
but, Im gonna go ahead and get an evga 6800gt, their back in stock at newegg, 400 bucks and doom 3 comes with it

~Octavious

who here plays Halo in this 3d, whats ur refresh rate ( 85hrz, ?? ), whats ur settings in game, whats it play like in 3d, and whats ur video card?
thats proboly the game to play for me i 3d, and Doom 3 - Farcry
heck, ill proboly try Half Life 1 on it just for shits and giggles

were the 3D glasses yall bought the MSI ones from EBAY in the mostly red box??
please confirm, I dont want to buy shitty ones

ED or ELSA seem the best. ED are still made and are possibly slightly better but I'm very happy with my ELSA revelators. Mine are the wired ones and I don't find the wire gets in the way at all plus I don't have to buy batteries :)

As for refresh rate most people seem to run 100 Hz or more in 3D so you may need to drop your screen res so you can up your refresh rate if you get flickering at 85.

@ Axeman. Have you had any luck with your flashing problem yet (sorry if that sounds a bit iffy :) )

I also have the ELSA Wired ones... the Wire is VERY Long by the way

I couldn't get Halo to work with them, but I trhink it is my moniter, it's like something that jumped off the ark.

I'll try on my dads moniter at the weekend, if they work better there I'll nab it.

whats a good refresh? 100? 110? 120? more???? I want to know so I can start pricing monitors
are these the ones yall are buying???

~Octavious

Those are a different make. The ones Steve-O and I have are ELSA revelators and Axemans are ED. Those seem to be MSI and require an internal card by the look of things.

See here for some info.

They look like they may use the Nvidia drivers as you need an Nvidia card so they are probably ok but don't quote me on that. :)

The faster your monitor refresh the better but personally I have my monitor running at 800x600 with 100 Hz refresh and that's flicker free and very nice. If you need 1024x768 or more then you'll need a good monitor. My mate has a 21 inch CAD monitor and the jammy git can use his revelators at 1200 x 1024.

Bear in mind that there is an optimum refresh rate for CRT monitors around the 85-120hz mark due to the time it takes for phosphor dots to turn dark again (especially the green elements)

set your refresh rate too low and you get a flicker, like a bad fluorescent tube... too high, and you start seeing a 'ghosting' effect (probably less headache-inducing, but still annoying...)

^ thx for that, so 100-120 should be the highest I ever need in 3d??
thx
what about wherer to get them revelators??
or should I just get the ED ones?

~Octavious

Octavious, ebay Germay has tons of shutter glasses. Maybe you could try it there? If you want to, I can give you some links that include everything you need.

As for your question, I used my glasses on 100 Hertz and it was alright.
