I've researched this a bit and they say you need a minimum of 70Hz to reduce flicker. My monitor goes to 85Hz so should be passable if not particulary brilliant.

Hmm... that makes a refresh rate at about 42... you won't be able to play that long before getting a headache. A minimum rate for 3D should be about 100Hz.
Are you sure your monitor can't handle this?
Most monitors can handle more if you set the resolution lower, which doesn't matter too much when playing 3D games.
Well... I read this thread and decided to go for a pair....
I bought a pair of the wireless E-Dimensional glasses off ebay - bit more pricey, but wireless is good
They've got great reviews, and I'm looking forward to having a play...
I wasn't bidding against anyone here was I?
Not much - they're just the standard 'bios-battery' type button batteries.Axeman, How much does a New battery cost for them when it goes flat ?

I'm new to these but I've done a lot of research in the last day or two. ATI seem to cause a lot more trouble than Nvidia. The forum mentioned on Toxibunny's post is probably the best place to ask but it looks like mosch hasn't had a reply to his ATI question yet.
