Why are all of the tutorials for C++?

Oh well, another java flamewar. Whoop-de-doo. Do you actually search for "Java" just to rant again? I mean seriously, Java was used as an example because it's a high-level-language and C++ would be a bit too close to C. And yet, instead of just accepting that, you go on and rant. I am so SICK...

We had nothing so luxurious! We rubbed our fingers together until they were so hot they ignited our hair! Or any other of the various "when I was your age" jokes (of the "we had it worse"-variant) :)

The category is used for the placement in the pandora menu and conforms to the category names of the "Desktop Menu Specification" from freedesktop.org, which is also used in Gnome, KDE etc. I guess it's directly translated to that format and only in an array because that looks better. Full...

Why are all of the tutorials for C++?

There are always exceptions (And, of course, way too many java.lang.Exceptions :D ) One other, more common example would be file handling. If you make stuff like 'new File("C:\blubb\bla.txt")', it will obviously not run on linux because linux does not have such a path and does not use a...

Why are all of the tutorials for C++?

Just to clarify: The JVM is not a VM in the classical sense. While it IS a virtual machine, it doesn't emulate any operating system. Java programs, when compiled, result in bytecode instead of executables. The Java VM, which you need on every computer a java program should run, takes this...

Why are all of the tutorials for C++?

I guess that XxionxX means apps made by the programming language, not the language itself (nad the parts of it like compiler, interpreter or in java's case JVM etc) :)

Why are all of the tutorials for C++?

Okay, if you take assembler into it, an example is easy to be found :) I thought more about C and Java (there was something about file rights or file types that was extremely proprietary in C but I can't remember it)

Why are all of the tutorials for C++?

Quite the opposite. The higher a language is, the less the user of it has to care about the system he's on. Of yourse, you can also make low-level-language programs portable, but the lower you go, the harder it is. I wanted to add an example here, but I couldn't think of a good one..

    PXML specification

I'd also make it mandatory - if you use it for load balancing, the whole thing would fall flat on its face if one of the servers wouldn't implement it. I would maybe add a reason for it on the discussion page (e.g. copy paste my post above ;) ), but since I do not have an user account and do...

Why are all of the tutorials for C++?

Of course it's personal preference :) Personally, I think making a game in C would be a pain in the butt, but other people might think the same thing about C++, Phyton, Java, Brainfuck2D, Pascal, VB, Whitespace, Lolcode etc etc. (No, I don't think all of them are suited for serious...

Why are all of the tutorials for C++?

C is really really old. C++ is too, but C is in a whole other league. Today, you'll probably do not want to use C for anything other than really low level or legacy stuff, kinda like it is with assembler. Of course, millions of C fans just cried out in anger :D Also, the Object-Oriented...

    PXML specification

Not exactly, but close. I seem to have a stunning ability to not make myself clear :D Yes, the hash calculation would be server side, but there's no need to do it client-side (except for checking the integrity of the downloaded file, but with todays internet.. when was the last time you had...

    PXML specification

I'm also a fool for security, but I don't think you'd really need a cryptography-grade hash algorithm for that - generating a file with a valid PXML that has the same hash as another one is pretty impossible even with plain old CRC

    PXML specification

This is no proposal for the PXML spec but for the repository one. I think it fits best in this thread. ----------------------------- OK, I thought about it a bit more and I think there's one additional tag we need. That tag could be generated on the server and doesn't have to be in the PXML...
