Really looking forward to this too. Some level of 'strangeness' might be fun, a sign of the first-batchers. But if the thing bends or doesn't close all the way or something... might have to wait another forever-months.
I wouldn't worry about players of unequal skill playing against each other. If you don't want to be schooled by someone in a network game, then play local. Even if there were separate 'newbie' and 'pro' servers, chances are the pro servers would mostly be empty so the good people would play on...
Dutch_Cap, I've been wanting something similar. I think a lot of us do, but there are surprisingly few attempts at such a game. I find this one particularly interesting:

One problem with the idea is that while we have a romantic view of this near-endless...

Basically, if you know something is going to be moving fast, you can turn on CCD (continuous collision detection) for that...
Excellent job! This is an extremely chill, relaxing game. I'm enjoying it :) Only played about 10 minutes, so no constructive feedback yet, but I wanted to shower you with praise first. Back to exploring the galaxy...
Edit: Just finished my first game, took an hour :) The only beef I have...
Phew... I saw the thread title and thought I was gonna have to explain quaternions, but thankfully you wanted 2D. 3D rotation around an arbitrary axis is much more of a pain :/
