some people over at the rockbox forums were wondering about this...rRockbox is an open source replacement firmware for mp3 players that has some cool features (such as gapless playback, doom, abunch of games, the ability to have coustom themes etc) read about it here

http://www.rockbox.org

It would suck as a FW replacement (which is what rockbox is intended to be)

If it were ported as an application, then it might be quite good, since it has some cool options like gapless playback and replaygain support.

can't be done!!! It's a freakin firmware replacement dude... forget about it! It would be way easier to program a decent audio player that runs on linux for the gp2x which features gapless playback and such. The firmware is mainly developed to provide drivers for audio, display and input in a totally different handheld environment then the one we have within the gp2x. Why would we want to limit the usability of our precious little multifunctional embedded linux wondermachine by turning it into a mere mp3 player?
