Release Final Burn Alpha ported to Pandora (FAQ in first post)

If you guys get most of the games on the compatibility list working could you back port it to the Wiz/Caanoo? The Caanoo version also has a lot of listed games that don't work. I'd kill to be able to play Knights of Valor!

I'll look into these issues tommorow. Just a thought, is the sound issues in aerofighter/sonicwings 2 an issue across all emulators, it rings a bell that the sound always drop out after a few seconds of gameplay.

crow_riot. svn, git etc is all new to me. My source is open to anyone who asks for it but I'd rather have a central hub. How do we get this off the ground?

Ive only encountered the sound going completely off with aerofighter/sonicwings 2 maybe after 1 minute of gameplay, all other games that Ive tried have sound, although with some lag which is very distracting even though the lag isnt to big. I have all the neo geo, cps1, cps2 roms but still there are maaaaany roms from the list that I dont have, ¿where can I find these? ¿are they mame roms? if so which version of mame? Thanks. :)

Hey dave18, can you also take a look at metal slug 3? As for some reason this game always has problems where the other metalslug games do not. Even the NeoGeo emu has had problems in the past. For me it glitches once it boots up, and then when you exit the game, it kicks you out of FBA.

Also, I just updated all my preview pics, and the image is slightly to the left. I didn't notice if it was like this before or not. The left edge of the pic is right to the edge of the "X" in Capex, and you can see a small gap on the right next to the margine where the image should be on that side. So I'm not sure if this is an issue with my preview pics, or just a Capex bug.

Chris
Metal slug 3 was an encrypted rom so if this is an early build i wouldnt hold your breath.Basically the sprites are encrypted.
Thanks for the heads up. It's not a big deal if it ever runs properly, as the Neogeo emu runs it A-OK. I just thought I would report it for the fix list.

I also think I found the issue with my preview pics, as they are slightly bigger than the GP2X ones. So I'm gonna try and convert them to a small resolution, and that should fix the issue.

Chris
Good FBA preview pack here with correct resolution and format if anyone needs this.

Thanks, ¿where do I have to put these preview pack to see the pictures?

Hey NeoG. Sorry about that, probably should have included a better explanation in my post. These go in the fba-dave18/preview directory. You'll most likely have to create this folder if you haven't already imported it from another build.

Thanks a lot for the help, the pictures work great. :)

Greetings.

There is a little confusion around exactly what FBA supports and what people can expect from this emu. It's understandable - Google and even the author's official site provide little information. I've trawled some old GP32X threads to put together a mini FAQ. I could have some facts wrong; please chime in to fill in any blanks. When it looks good we'll update the OP and wiki, and it may be useful to put some of this in the PND app description(s) too.

[edit] FAQ moved to first post. Input still welcome. :)

Thanks Gruso for such a great explination, not everyone knows all this things, and if you guys dont explain we keep making questions.

What issues do we still have? I haven't gotten around to using this yet.
Right now I think the biggest issue is a bit of lag with the sound, other than that it works and looks fantastic, that doesnt mean that with time compatibility to specific roms will get better and better. :)

Thanks Gruso, your post has been useful to me! :)

I tested the latest Dave18's build, and it runs very well! Great work! The only recurring bug I have right now, like others, is that Capex seems to corrupt the games list after quitting a game.

Excellent, Gruso! And of course Dave18 and crow_riot. I haven't had the time to try this yet, but I remember this being very good even on the gp2x, so I'm looking forward to it.

Great Summary Gruso, it should help many noobs who are using FBA for the first time. This is such a great emu, that allows for a wider selection of games that our versions of MAME run kinda of slow.

I think it's time to address the matter of the bounty. Crow_riot expressed reticence about accepting any money, and Dave has expressed a desire to split the bounty between himself and crow_riot. I, for one, am not optimistic about all of the pledges still being around--but that's another matter.

I'd be willing to take point to try and nudge the pledges, if and when we know where the money is supposed to go. So, guys?

(also, I hate to be a broken record, but I'd really like to be able to remap the buttons in Dave's build--at the moment I can't bomb in vertical shmups due to a weird bug on the X button)

Hi,

Thanks for porting this awesome emu over to the Pandora :)

I've tried only one game so far, DoDonPachi !

Some first impressions: rather bad sound (even @ 44Khz), software rotate mode works fine but the screen is too tiny, and software rotate stretch mode looks really ugly ;) The game also seems slower on the Pandora than on the GP2x.

I must be doing something wrong with the original vertical mode: it's rather uncomfortable to play with, and I didn't find the good button to drop bombs... How do you guys manage to play games in vertical mode ?

Bye and thanks again !

I've managed to sort out the sound lag, basically I'm adjusting the buffer size depending on the sample rate and this seems to do the trick. Fixed the sound in forgotten worlds as well, it was down to a driver reporting issue. I want to sort out the Capex Rom list bug before I upload but I can't reproduce it (i only have about 40 roms for testing). What's the fewest number of roms that someone has encountered this bug with?

Also trying to incorporate the sega drivers, system 16 should work as it only uses 1 68000 and 1 z80 but it keeps segfaulting in Drz80.

I for one will be happy to donate when the current build supports the games I want to play!

D.

Still I want to see a .dat file so I can make sure I have the correct roms....

I guess I'm asking to much...

I don't want to download new roms I want to rebuild the ones I have.. Bud

Fantastic news, as soon as sound matches gameplay I will send a donation. :)

Thanks for the hard work.

That sounds awesome. Hopefully the bugs can be worked out, and the Sega games will run at a decent rate along side CPS2 and NeoGeo.

I've already given my rom count for the Capex crash, hopefully someone can give you a lower number, but more than likely, you'll have to try and just use a "Full" set, and I'm sure the issue will be duplicated on your end.

Keep up the great work, FBA is AWESOME!
