I have a feeling that the Xbox 2 will be out before the PS3.
I honestly doubt that. Microsoft isnt stupid. And a move like that could easily kill their chances at any future console development.

PS3 was officially announced as mid 2005. Which is pretty earily for the PS3 even, compared to the life PS1 had. Now Xbox was released about a year after PS2, so if they were to release an Xbox 2 before PS3 was released, they would have cut the Xbox 1's life span to an extremely short life, losing the trust of their userbase, creating a "Sega" type situation. (Sega lost A LOT of customers when they released Dreamcast because no one trusted them to keep it going for very long because their previous system, Saturn, had a VERY short life)

You dont get to where Microsoft is by being stupid.

however: Sega did not have a choice, seeing as no developers wanted to make games for the Saturn because no one understood how it worked :)

I thought it was a widely accepted fact that the Xboxnext was to be released before the PS3....

Also, akuma, I dont know where you shop, but I know I couldnt find a NEW 1ghz PC for 70-100$ (thats about £50- a decent case and a good control pad would cost £50). And if I did, I know that it wouldnt fit in my rucksack, which my Xbox happens to do.

That 1ghz machine would in no way be able to play new games either.

What I'm saying is that an Xbox allows you to play new games perfectly, both PC ports and Xbox exclusive titles, whilst also offering amazing emulation. Good emulation on my PC covers SNES, Genesis, N64, Playstation, Neo Geo, older systems etc. No Ps2 emulation works well, no DC, no GC. The Xbox can handle PS1 and N64, not to mention flawless Snes etc.

An Xbox is more convenient, if bought quite early is guarateed new games for about 4 years, and whatever you say, is cheap. Why do you think M$ makes a loss on every console sold.

I love PC gaming, but also like console gaming because of their exclusive games and the fact that games are guaranteed to work as they should, not to mention the portability.

remember my arguments are friendly! In no way do I mean any disrespect for anyone here, I just love to take opposing views and argue the point. :)
It's all good natured and makes for interesting discussions. :)

I have a ps2, and a dreamcast under my tv now and I'm using almost solely the dreamcast, that's most likely because I have had my ps2 for longer and I can easily download dreamcast stuff and stick it onto cd. The ps2 is great tho, love it and I'm planning a huge session to complete the games I never bothered finishing on the ps1 soon (got to stay in bed for a whole month after having an operation on my jaw!!!).

Basically, I bought the ps2 because I didn't think the other consoles would bring out sequels to my fav games on the ps1. Those being metal gear solid and the final fantasy series, which both have games on other systems now.

By the way, what games would people *really* reccomend for the ps2? I keep trading stuff in cos it's not as good as I expect it will be.

Right now I have:
  • Tony Hawks 3
  • Enter the matrix
  • Metal Gear Solid - S.O.L.
  • GTA vice city
  • Ratchet and clank
  • Splinter cell (I expect I'll trade this soon though.)
  • Eye toy and camera
  • Jak and daxter 1
I'm planning on gettin final fantasy 10 soon, and need for speed underground.

So what other games would you reccomend?

We talking about PS2 games?

My favourite was Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner, by FAR.

Amazing game, just a little too easy and short.

Twinbee - awesome sig, where's it from?

I suggest Ring of Red if you can find it, and Disgaea just off the top of my head.

As for systems, I think Sony's going to force M$ to launch the xb2 first. The PS2 is selling fine for them and with the release of the HDD they;re going to try and keep it alive as long as they can if they can keep the PS2 viable they wont need to release anything for a while, meanwhile M$ is loosing money on every unit they sell and inorder to stop the bleeding they need a hot new product which means a new system. If they think they can get people excited in the new system they might feel they can get a jump and start towards finally making their gaming devision profitable. Besides they said the xbx was only built to get IN to the game industry while the xb2 would be their big hit, they've said dont care how much they loose on the first system aslong as it gets the second one to sell, but they can only keep that attitude for so long before they miss the oppotunity to wow the audiance with new stuff.

I predict E3 will be their first mention of the hardware of the xb2 and try to beat the PS3 to the market ("pulling a sega") But the question is will it be better than the planned PS3 seeing as no one knows anything about it yet. Sony isn't watching or waiting on M$. They have a plan for their system and it isnt based on "beating" anything but the PS2 so it isnt likely they're looking to see what the competition has and beef up their system to match or one-up it. If Sony produces a more intersting system they can turn the xb2 into another Dreamcast by announcing their features and playing an awesome demo video the day the xb2 shows its first Screen shot.

They did it before, and they could be trying to do it again.
