Hi all,

I was wondering, would'nt it be nice to get some kind of 'Elite' GP32 owners thing going before the europian launch.

That might sound selfish, but it would be a good way of getting away from all those anoying Newbie questions that will come flooding into the forums once the launch begins. It would be a place where all us matured gp32 owners can go and converce about real topics. We all sign up now and stop any new members joining after the launch (or make them burn their arms off or bite a chickens head off or something first).

Just an idea (mostly because I have no idea how to do it myself).

Cheers,

Ian.

or you could only grant access to the forum if a person has made over say 50 posts. that way they would be able to get over their NOOB question faze. i dont think this is a very good idea though.

yes, they should have SOME kind of limit in the development forums, so they don't get questions like: can i use visual basic to make a 3d game for gp32?, or does game maker work with gp32? or, whats a compiler

good times

Or we could just be a real community and not do that. Besides, it's not always the newbies that are annoying (some are really helpfull, others are excellent coders), some guys that have been around for a long time keep asking 'newbie-ish' questions and simply refuse to ever read a faq, pinned note or readme.

it sounds cool but - the GP32 scene is pretty small so if we have to weather the occasional onslaught of newbs, so be it... better than keeping things constricted and tiny (and boring) if you ask me. the newbs around here are never really that bad anyway, at least not compared to how it's been on some other types of boards.

and for a device/scene as "idiosyncratic" as GP32, it definitely helps to have some old standby's to help out the fresh guys. it's a little overwhelming otherwise I think.

so what's up? there's a european launch being planned again? this is the most on-again off-again thing I have ever heard of.. I know mitsui is not happening, I thought virgin was wrapped up as well, is it something else (or is this just the Spain thing..) -- whatever, I personally think it's kinda late in the game for a Euro GP32 launch but what the hell, it would always be cool in + of itself I suppose..

GP have just made 800 new GP32's, from the looks of them its from old and new parts, the screens seem to be slightly diffrent and the screen cover now covers the screen and most of the GP32 as well, but the back still says 2001/2.

When I get GP32's with euro boxes we will know something is happening ;)

It just does not make any sense.
A lot of people (and not only newbies) ask very basic questions because they don't have the patience to read the guides that already exist, here and on several other GP32 sites.
When that happens they should get the standard answer:
GP32FAQ: click here!
ROM/Warez Policy: click here!

Wow once again there is a little buzz about the euro launch. I hope it really happens this time. I don't live in europe but hopfully with that launch I might be able to find a new gp32 cheaper since there will hopfully be more online distributers. Hopfully some of those new colors will come out. Its been months since I lost my gp and I still have come no where near having the cash to blow on a new one. I really hope by the time I do I can get a colored one and opensnes will have a new release or two with that new core in it. I still havn't been able to try it and if I go and blow the cah on a new gp it would just be so cool to get some new stuff to mess with it. Possibly by that time that slef install flu will be out also. I'm thinking that it still might be a few months down the line before I get a new gp32 and some of that stuff might be reality.

I would say that is a bad idea blocking people who have less than 50 posts from joining. I have a low post count but have been here long enough to have been able to post a lot. it will be usless stopping people post as someone who carn't read a post might be able to help. the best thing to do is have a sub-forum named newbie questions and make sure they only post in there by having a strict post watch anywere else. if they post somewere else this kind of question then give them a warning. if they have a certain number bar him from creating posts anywere but the newbie forum until it's saw fit. don't let people miss on aspects of a web site or they won't visit the forums and help they'll only leach off the site causing trubble and slow speedes for everyone. you need to encourage people to join the community not avoid it!!

And that is what the newbie forum will be full of...

Where can I get warez?
Could someone port Half Life 3 for the GP?
Postcount++

Sounds great, except no one will answer them, so they'll be disillusioned by the scene.

Back to the original question...
Elite. Porting Elite. Elite on computer shouldn't even be attempted (but it has its available round here somewhere). The method of control is totally wrong.

However the game also came out on consoles. NES Elite is Ian Bell's favourite version. Also, Elite: The New Kind came out on GBA. I played it, it was fantastic. However, Frontier leaned on the devs of New Kind, and it got discontinued.
