Hi all!
I got this idea of pluging a webcam or a cellphone cam in the bottom of my gp32, write a program to control it and take some pics. I already started to look for cameras specs and I'll post here any news. If you have any idea or information please share

Peace

it'd be easier getting this working with the port of Linux, as that would add driver support for the cameras connected via USB.

Supposedly, the USB port works as both a slave and unpowered master. The camera would have to have it's own power source.

Sooner or later, someone will figure out how to access the USB master port. Then, it's just a matter of drivers for a whole range of USB devices.

Yeah it would definately be great to be able to use the USB port. I would love you connect up a portable barcode scanner and use the GP32 as a data capture terminal for stock taking. :)

very I am interested in this
is possible to be done something?
as it is possible to be helped?

most webcams draw their power from the computer, so it wouldnt be possible :(
Not necessarily. If they drew power from the computer, you would just need to find an alternate way to pump some voltage into the USB cable.

Great idea ZiUL. This is an idea I often wondered if it would work. I too believe the "issue" of a power source wouldn't be that hard to overcome.

An extra battery and a diode or two?

Seeing as the ericsson chatboard has been connected up, why not try one of the communicams? AFAIK, all the image procesing is done on board, and it just outputs a ready-made image that is refreshed every second or so, and the full sived image itself once it haas saved it onto the cameras internal memory (another plus point). And the newest one can take up to 640x480, which is pretty good if you look at the size of the thing. And its got a little view finder so you don't even have to find a way to do the real-time preview.

I think the newest one is called the MCA-25 (the MCA-20 doesnt have as high a resolution).

You could easily do that using the serial port.

There are alot of serial cameras with pretty good image size but u can get 320x240 serial cameras that are small it be worth checking them.

If u want a really crazy idea use the usb port for 1 of them TV in plugs so u can see tv on the gp32 lol :p
