LOTR 3

I'm not saying the original Star Wars films are sh*t (they're probably my 2nd favourite films after LOTR), but LOTR raises the notch even higher. But to possibly compare LOTR with eps 1 & 2 is shameful. And as for ep 3 having no "real" external location shots (yes they're all cgi :-( ) why oh why.

I think Lucas has lost the plot and people are just too scared to say "No George, that doesn't work".

I hope I'm wrong and that ep 3 is great - but I'm not convinced. It's not just me though, most people I talk to hate ep 1 & 2. I don't hate them (I own them both on DVD) I just don't think they do justice to a great franchise. Hope they don't muck up Indie 4 (subtitled - and the lost zimmer frame :D ) either

There's an Indiana Jones FOUR?!?
It's in the works. ;)

I liked LOTR3 a lot but I can't see this as being one of the best movies of all time since most people I know aren't into fantasy movies. And I HATE that they didn't include the end in the book with Sauron.. I mean, I was really looking forward to that <_<. Oh well, all in all, I'd say it was definitely worth the 9 CND I spent. Oh, and when you see it, try to refrain from buying a large pop because you'll regret it when you miss 8+ minutes of the movie spent in the washroom. ;)

but not a patch on star wars ep.2  episode 3 will be ferking BRILLIANT

I hope this is sarcasm - LOTR blew the original star Wars trilogy out of the water not to mention the cgi barely average feast that was ep1 & 2
star wars ep. 2 was just as epic as lord of the rings... it's only problem were the scenes with christopher lee... what a cheeseball! :p

The new Star Wars are BY NO MEANS EPIC. It is the exact opposite. The loss of that huge, intruiging, epic plot is what made the new ones so bad for me. The old ones had that sense of adventure, the actors were spectacular, it was well written and the plot was original. The acting is abhorently bad in the new ones and they tried to turn them into action movies. I'll see Ep. 3, but just for the traces of plot it has left. Finally, I would like to quote from EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly Magazine) one of thier reviews of the amazing title Knights of the Old Republic (Part the Star Wars franchiwse which brought back the epic"ness" of the old Star Wars (and I think its pretty bad when I enjoy the plot of the video game more than the new movies and it better acted)). "4,000 year before a little brat screamed 'Yeeh Hooh'; ruining our childhood memories forever" because I believe that describes the failure of the new ones the best. Note, I said Lucas WAS a genius, back in his Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and American Graffiti days.

I hear the new Indiana Jones is possibly gonna be about Atlantis.

And I HATE that they didn't include the end in the book with Sauron..

I take it you mean Saruman - there's around 7 minutes of footage with Saruman that they didn't have time to show - it'll be in the EE cut in November. However, this won't be the bit from the end of the book as they haven't filmed the scouring of the shire. Christopher Lee was less than happy about being cut from ROTK and hasn't turned up at the premieres. I think the ending was about right - if the showed the shire all burnt down it would have been a bit of an anticlimax to the end.

Ok let me put it this way....
I am a HUGE SW fans..always have been for (20 years) always will be...
The original trilogy are the best Sci Fi films ever created. The new ones have nothing over the originals.

The LOTR trilogy is the greatest Fantasy film and story ever conceived.

Why did I say I liked LOTR trilogy better than the Original SW trilogy then??

Because the LOTR story is SO detailed, and elaborate..besides the films are based on an epic novel that has captivated readers for over 50 years. Story wise, LOTR beats SW, just because I love the plot, character development...everything.
In terms of making film history, and appealing to audiences and creating something truely unique from other flat hollywood movies, the Original SW has the edge.

Long live LOTR trilogy and SW Originals.....

*After all I have Gandalf on my right bedroom wall and Darth Vader on my left bedroom wall. :D

Oh yeah..and Mr. Smith from the Matrix on the other wall.
Man my wife hates that poster..lol

star wars ep. 2 was just as epic as lord of the rings... it's only problem were the scenes with christopher lee... what a cheeseball!

Good lord, it is NOT "epic". It is an action/cheesy romance movie whose plot consists of lines such as "I've been dying a little bit each day since I met you" , that has glaring plot holes (here's an example; how did C-3PO just automatically come with Anakin- didn't he have an owner to get back to?) and which uses shameful and predictable appeal-to-the-masses techniques (Queen Amidala's already skimpy clothing just gets more and more torn toward the end of the movie, doesn't it? What is this, a strip parlor?! <_< ).

I really loved the original SW movies, and I even kinda began liking Episode 1 after I watched it a few times, but after watching Episode 2, I realized that there is no way that the franchise can now save itself.

As for the LOTR movies, they are very good, but IMO they suffer from bad editing (not all the time, but too often) and over-dramatization (having Sauron presented as a distant but ominous threat in the book was a much better technique than having constant close-ups of Barad-dur and the Lidless Eye in the movie, IMO). The extended editions are better in this, but they don't completely fix it...

Anyway, that's my little rant. ;)

I'll still be seing SW III in the summer, just because I could be wrong... but I doubt it.

Your honestly think ep. 2 is a better film than any of the LoTR?

Admittedly Yoda with a light sabre was amazing but any scene with Hayden Christiansen in was awful, which idiot thought he could act?

yeah bollocks to the whole anakin skywalker love story thing, i liked ep.2 because it really did transport me to 'a long time ago in a galaxy far away'

they're a different style of film to the original three, and anyone who criticises it for being an action film should take off their rose-tinted glasses about the original three... THEY'RE ALL ACTION FILMS! :p

I love the original Star Wars films and ever since I was a kid they have been my favourite films....until The Lord Of the Rings trilogy appeared and totally blew me away. I read the book when I was 14 and have always wished someone would make a film out of it....George Lucas tried with Willow, which I think is a cool film. To compare LOTR trilogy to the new SW Ep 1 & 2 is a bit of a joke though. The new films feel plastic and antiseptic, way too much meaningless CGI. The battle at the end of 2 is pretty cool but how can you identify with a bunch of robots and clones beating the crap out of each other. Compare that to the Riders of Rohan charging the elephants in Return of the King and it seems laughable. As the riders are human and fighting for the future of the fate of men in middle earth it hurts to see them getting smashed and crushed. I agree with an earlier comment that Lucas has too many yes men who have failed to stand up and say he is doing things wrong. I think he should scrap episode 3 and let Peter Jackson direct it with some New Zealand locations!!

While I agree with Twimfy, I think it's ok to compare feature to feature though.

Like epicness and meaningfullness and intensityness :), wich the original sw trilogy and the LOTR one have wayyyy more than the two new sw films and the two later matrixes in my opinion.

I don't have a problem with action in the new sws or the later matrixes, its the fact that they are but an empty shell of something wich could have been great. Beautifull and empty shells are fine... for some people.

They looked cool if you ask me, check the shot of them crawling all over the elephant. By the way did anyone see what happened to the pig ugly orc commander? I wanted to see that guy get despatched with a vengeance but he just disappeared during the Rohan cavalry charge....probably show what happened to him in the extended edition!

anyone who criticises it for being an action film should take off their rose-tinted glasses about the original three... THEY'RE ALL ACTION FILMS!
While the original trilogy did in fact have strong elements of action, they are more that adventure drama which is what made many of Lucas' ealry films so cool (hint hint: Indiana Jones. And, Nelligan, I was never really able to find them epic. But, wow, did they have plot. There is one movie that I can accept absolutely no plot out of and that is Deperado, a really cool action flick that should not be missed. In the end there are going to be four kinds of Star Wars fans:

1.Older fans who lined up at thier theatres to see the original trilogy and many of these can not stand the new Trilogy.
2. Young fans like me who have been watching the originals since they were 4 years old and can never really enjoy the new ones.
3. People who enjoy both just cause they like movies, enjoy cheesy CGI hunks of crap with bad acting, or are die hard Star Wars fans.
4. Teens and little kids who are simply complete idiots and cannot even begin to appreciate the intricacies of the originals or just think "that the monsters don't look good enough" or something.

The new ones throw what plot they have with obvious badly written and badly acted lines. The originals give you the plot beautifully in subtle detail, making you interested in what is going to happen and the result is powerful and moving. Also, there were never really and memorable scenes or clever lines "I'd just as soon kiss a wookie", "I can arrange that".

In fact just ignore everything I just said because two words sum up the failure. Jar-Jar.
