Note: FPS Counter has been fixed! Interesting results. Read below.

These sets of programs will test your GP32 to see if it can be overclocked at a certain speed, designated by the FXE name.

The first one is 17 sets of files - 132 MHz to 200 MHz, in 4 MHz increments.

Source is included. If a developer needs the pllset value for a certain clock speed, look here. (Warning: 868KB file)

The second program starts at 40, changes to 67, then 132, then increments by 4 MHz after that all the way up to 200 MHz (after which it automatically resets if it hasn't already) with 15 seconds inbetween.

--Results--

Anyone who runs gpoverclk can easily see my results. There are "valid" speeds for 132MHz and above on the GP32 which seem to run in this order: 132, 160, 166. Anything inbetween or after that does NOT actually increase the speed! My GP32 can go up to 188MHz (the max of the RAM bus), but the speed doesn't actually increase as it is getting "rounded" back to 166 MHz (max speed for the RAM).

Oh, I also included gp40_2.fxe which sets the clock to 40 MHz and just counts up. Maybe you could use it as some sort of timer :)

164Mhz was my max, apparently. With all the tech wizkids here, it is a wonder no one has an answer as to why the gp32s have such a huge differance in what clockspeed they can run at.

I recall someone working on a program which let you set the clockspeed of _any_ other program (I suppose it just searches for the clockspeed setting and alters it), does anyone know what happened to it?
 
hmmm, why does my GP run this program at 160MHz without a problem,,, but not the emus at thsi speed? :\
 
I don't know if these tests are accurate, but none of them reset or crash on me. I ran 200mhz for half an hour, and the 188 for 15 minutes now. My GP will run snes9xgp at 180mhz no problem. Is there a version of the snes emu that will run at 200 so I can test that?
 
Thanks for the update. I ran the incremental test all the way through twice with no problems. So you're saying that when I run it over 166, it's still always 166? What about the snes9xgp that runs at 180. I notice a difference in speed when I use it, or is it really only running at 166? How can you overclock to 180 or 200 for real then?

The ram's limit is 166 MHz. I seriously think it's just a misperception. Run the 180_2.FXE and 166_2.FXE (from the new zip, if you haven't downloaded it already), comparing their average loops and aprox. speed up. 180_2.FXE should be considerably higher then 166_2.FXE if it actually sets the clock to 180MHz.

How can you overclock to 180 or 200 for real then?

Unless you have a self-modded 32MB or otherwise mutant GP32, you shouldn't be able to.
 
A stopwatch and timing a 160mhz demo of a snes game then a 180mhz one should decide if its faster.

In my gp32 with the second test program (gpovrclk.fxe) the speed increments perfectly, until 176 mhz, where the console resets. Nice app. Gamepark should use it to test all the new gp32 :D.

i tried both batteries and the power adapter and mine crashes evertime at 168mhz. I can run consistantly at 166mhz so if the processor is clocking back why then cant i run any higher than 166mhz. your theory suggests that anyone who can run at 166 could run at 172 180 188 200 as all of these options apparently run at 166mhz.
 
Well it is nice to find out your machine can run at more than 132MHz, but since there is not much overload on the cpu (actually it almost idles) the results are fake. For the first time I have got my GP32 to 152MHz before rebooting and was really glad it can get that high, but then I tried various versions of Snes9xGP (140, 144, 150MHz) and all of them crashed just after execution from the menu (that is, when there was some more work for the cpu).
I am mentioning that here just to prevent others from similar disappointment I had.
 
hhhmmm.... the program says that I can overclock to 172mhz but when Setting Castaway to 166mhz it crashes.... hhhmmm

Gamepark have stopped making the GP32 (For Now... untill march or may 2004 I think it is)
