My wish, QUAKE

I've heard that you can just take the new pocket quake sources and compile it to get quake running with 20fps... (If u are a coder)

Does this take time? I'm no coder and that's why I'm asking. If some nice coder can just try and report how it goes I will be pleased.

It would be a dream playing Quake on the GP32, what do u think mates?

Thnx, Tb

(I'm not from UK or USA so sorry for my english)

I'm also active in xbox-scene and there it just popes up homebrew stuff all the time but that's because they have so many coders and users...

me too, I had a look at pocktequake source.. but, I still have probs setting up compiler and IDE for gp32 dev... Is anybody working on a port?

OK, thanx for the replays now I know.
I'm no coder but is it possible to get it to ocmpile if u work with that code a bit.
Days? H? M? :P

 some1 has ported it, ive got it somewhere, but its useless really atm, i've hears it can do about 2fps :D but mine gets stuck at the menu

No, your right. The original code used floating point maths (which neither the GP or pocket PC's have). The new source has all the floats converted to fixed point, so is a lot faster. Also the original coder didn't optomise the sound or graphics code for the GP- so improvements can be made there as well. If we get between 15-20fps from a proper port, I wouldn't be surprised. The quake port as it stands now, runs at between 2-6fps.

no, quake is the best old multiplayer game I've played (in school) ...
When I got my voodoo 1 4mb and tried glquake I was stunned :P ....

lol 4mb rofl

Im still working on trying to get it to compile my problem is the makedepend staement.

If i do get it to compile i will put the new sources into it and find if it works.

But i still have to find the 32mb bug as it works on 32mb cards only thats why it froze at the menu screen i think.

Im no programmer so dont expect me to be making it a full game as it would take ALONG wile to i can understand porting the applications better.

hey, NiN, don't bother with the current port of Quake, that's the one that uses floating point ;/ btw, Guyfawkes also tried compiling it a while ago, and failed

It does compile and i'm sure guyfawkes did get it to compile.

However the news about a version using a fixed point lib is brilliant.

Yes, brilliant news indeed. When my bro saw Doom on my GP32 he was impressed, can't wait to see his reaction when I show him quake :D

2 vids of ThunderZ's 3D engine
Download and watch the 2 movie files.

Here's ur Quake!!

(btw. I think quake 1 is the best game ever!)

EDIT: As mentioned in the linked thread I found out that the engine is a doom style engine. so no real quake with this one. sorry!
