Gp2x = Extreme Durability

Until gamepark started using UPS, fedex would regulaly drop boxes of gp2x's down stairs, out the back of vans, into the sea(!)...

Almost always got them working again.
Is that why my case of th gp2x doesn't fit together properly. I should really send that back soon. Warranty only lasts till November!

I would have another toss down the stairs or something to make sure it really does not fit

1.)NYC Subway 34th street, was changing battery when it fell 4ft on-to the hard concrete floor...Picked it up and it re-booted by itself

2.)NYC Penn station, was walking down a flight of stairs when my headphone wire got caught on the rail pulling the gp2x out of my pocket falling down a flight of stair, picked it up and it was rebooting by itself..

Scary sh**t if you tell me, good thing Evil Dragon or Craig is here for live support. just incase I need to ship for repairs & they can charge me a fee..

 I wasn't talking about Jose, I was talking about Pedro

Why would you use my very first computer to clean your pool... thinking about it, it makes sense, the thing was a hunk of junk.

[ontopic] dropped mine off the top of my desk, (~6 ft high), hit my cd book (at the desktop) (~3ft drop), and bounced again at floor level. the batteries exploded outward, and i just needed to fix the connecters so the batteries would make a better connection.

Edit: spelling.

Last night I dreamt about a dying cat, horrible nightmare, it involved war victims too :(

I haven't dropped my GP2X yet (although the night is yet young, I've only had it for about seven hours), but my cat clearly pwns not just this paltry, boring planet, but the whole Multiverse.

I didn't realize Fedex was that bad, though.

Sounds Freeky.
I dreamt that some nutcase was following me to work, kinda made me a little jumpy when I was actually walking to work this morning

All the empty space in the GP2X on the back helps it out a good bit, but there's not so much on the front. Fortunately there is nothing that breakable there except the display which should have a protector on it anyway. If you smack the stick it's not like you're going to knock it off the PCB and the cap is a sort of impact shield for it anyway. There's not much reason for it to be fragile, since it's a 100% solid state device. The only moving parts are switches for the controls-- and Sony has a pretty notorious reputation for shitty, fault-prone optical drives, even in their home consoles (especially in their home consoles). I'm looking at you, PS2. I expect we'll see the same thing in the PS3 when they release it at $599 with just a blu-ray drive costing the better part of $1,000 at the moment.

Never dropped it, but fell on it at the airport... We were taking those long horizontal conveyor belts, and I turned around to say something to the person behind me, not realizing how fast these belts travel... My backpack contained my laptop + accessories (full size keyboard, mouse, power brick), my gp2x in its case, and some batteries, plus some random junk I guess...

We reach the end of the belt seconds after I turned around (told you those things move fast), I'm standing with my back facing the end of the damn thing, come to a sudden stop, get thrown onto the floor, and end up falling onto my backpack... Now I'm not a lightweight; that's about 90 kg's *dropped* on top of a backpack full of expensive electronics. Man, I thought the laptop was dead for sure... Those big LCD screens aren't exactly sturdy, you know?

Turns out the laptop was OK, nothing wrong with the LCD, harddisk didn't suffer damage, still works fine to this day, almost 3 months later... The gp2x on the other hand, while technically better protected in its case, and not such a big target as my laptop's LCD, didn't fare so well... The case was ripped open at the zipper (easily fixed), and the shaft of the mk2 cap split open, had to buy a new one...

The morale? Electronics are sometimes sturdier than we might otherwise think... The big fragile laptop survived a fall that damaged the sturdier and better protected gp2x (albeit only slightly). So there's really no telling what will happen when you drop something, or like in my case, drop your heavy ass *on top of* something...

Here's one that didn't survive very well - the screen is very much shattered although the picture doesn't really show it too well.

Wow I'm suprised how many people have had the bent battery contact problem after dropping their GP2x!

I signed up to this board to post that I had this problem also...
Gp2x fell out of my pocket of my jacket as I picked it up (3feet) and fell flat on it back onto carpet making a large crack noise :(

Very worried when I tried to power it on and nothing happened :s

Ordered the Gp2x case - couple of days later dropped it on the road while the gp2x was inside the case!
Phew close one! :D

Oh my, it fell onto carpet and sustained no damage? My original gameboy got run over by a truck and it still works. No, I will not offer an explanation for how this happened.

I wonder if my battery holster was damaged by a fall or if these sony's NiMH higher rating batteries are really a bit bigger than a standard AA sized battery

my GP (golden-peak, not game-park) batteries don't fit on my gp2x anymore, but my sony batteries do fit ok...
