Psx4gp2x Public Beta 2 Released.

@xinfernoofdantex

optimism is never the wrong attitude!

your 7000+games consists of many translations and different video systems of the same game

let us finish: it will run all games, i want to play!

if that were stated before we wouldn't be in this argument right now
fact remains from sony, there are officially over 7000 games

@ x-code

wich of this games run for you??

Grand Turismo 2
Italien job
MediEvil
MediEvil 2
DinoCrisis
DinoCrisis2
Resident Evil 3

@xinfernoofdantex

Wow! Hadn't realised - probably only < 100 common ones need to work I would think.

yea and there are 6,000+ for ps2 right now which if it lives as long as the ps1, i'm sure that numbers going to reach at least 9,000 - 10,000

Grand Turismo 2 -> In previous public beta 2 it reached menu If I remember well
Italien job -> Have it , haven't tried it yet
MediEvil -> Didn't try it but will do
MediEvil 2 -> Same as previous
DinoCrisis - > Nope, hangs after warning
DinoCrisis2 - > Nope, same as above
Resident Evil 3 - > Worked in private beta, failed in public beta 2 if I remember well

I can't give more specific data at the moment, I have to copy it to my new HD ( and comp ) :)

My latest tests of public beta 2, are posted somewhere in this thread :)

i´ve got 25 games and all isos run on epsxe, but this seven games do not run on psx4gp2x. I'm afraid it is an issue of incompatibility and not caused by a unusable rip because I tested several settings without success

If they run on another emu, I'm quite sure that they will end up running on this one :) , this next version may or may not solve these issues, but it sure sounds like it's going in the right direction.

you share my optimistic mind. ;)
that means you have got 50% of optimism in this thread!
all over: impossible, only 2d, some games will not run ...

We will get a usable, mobile, not-only-2d psx!!!

I'm optimistic about this emulator, too. I really don't think Zod or Unai would be working so hard on it if they didn't expect it to be something really good.

I'll be donating... as soon as I have the money. >_<

Mmm.. but then again quantity vs quality - quality was never a playstation strong point I'm afraid!
Just look at how many awful games appear in the second-hand bins for PS1/PS2 almost immediately.
Although can't comment on the PSP.. don't follow the scene at all.

An emulator on the gp2x just to play the PS1 games we've bought (~30) and (thankfully) haven't thrown out will be great..
Would begood to see Spyro, Tekken, Soulblade & Driver on a handheld (hopefully) very soon. :)

And diving further into wikipedia.

By the end of March 2005, there were 5,277 PS2 titles released worldwide, accounting for cumulative sales of 824 million units. With backwards-compatibility to PlayStation games, the PS2 had a released software library of 13,020 titles after 5 years and 27 days, although the region-coding limits this quite severely, to 3,181 PS2 titles and 4,907 PS1 releases in Asia; 1,121 and 1,501 in Europe; and 975 and 1,335 in North America.

Don't you just love marketing.

@xinfernoofdantex: I'm sorry, but the Sony emulator won't have 100% compatibility either. No emulator will ever have.

And you can't say I don't know what I am saying... I'm one of the developers for psx4all :p

@everyone: the GP2X might be too slow for some games, but the idea behind the "all" part in "psx4all" is that there are versions for other platforms. The Palm OS one is a good candidate for full-speed everywhere since there are CPUs that can go up to 600MHz (for example, mine goes up to 520). :)

I already said that !!!

No, but seriously, I'm quite sure that everyone grasps the fact that 100% of anything emulation-related is mostly impossible from a logical point of view ( at least for now ) , I mean, imagine having to emulate a CPU, translate it's instructions, store them for re-use... Emulate a custom chip, emulate the breakfast that the coders had... And so on... You end up with emutilation

You five are doing a great job on psx4gp2x ( included extra hidden Squidge  ) , regardless of the final results, everyone here will appreciate the effort :) .

I am aware you are a developer and what you 3 have done so far is astounding, but surely you can agree with me in saying that sony knows their system best and for them to emulate it at a quality similar to what we have on the gp2x right now, or even far above that, would be a fairly simple task

btw, do you have any idea how the dreamcast version is coming along?

Sure a simple task, but there is no way they will let us put our legal ISO backups of games we have owned for 9+ years onto a MemoryStick and emulate them.

Not a chance, that is not how Sony makes the $$ off the PSP. They need to charge for each and every piece of software run on the system. Each game (or possibly collection of hits) will be charged for seperately.
