Hu6280 Now Has Cdrom Support!

Vobbo, you should either do a collaboration with reesy for perfect snes emulation, or start it on your own. Im confident that with both of you working on it, snes would be the best, hands down.

Just a thought :)

Well I think the word that vobbo is working on a more recent MAME is pretty exciting, so I'm looking forward to that. We can't stretch our coding dynamo too thin..... :)

Thanks for the kind words :)

makes a change to read something positive ;)

Don't let the criticism get you down :)

You see there is this fine line with this stuff. If everyone said that the emu was great and perfect then there would be no need to update anything. If no one mentioned the rough state of the sound then you may just think that if everyone says it is fine then there is no need to fix it. When we mention bugs/glitches it also may point out something that you may not have found. Try not to take this as "negative". We are not saying "your emu sux" or anything like that. We all know that it is an insane amount of hard work doing this. We do appreciate it too, even if it sounds like we are bitching.

Originally when you started I said that I would donate when it was near perfect. I donated half of that amount rather than waiting for the final verson so that you would have something sooner. I do plan on donating again the same amount or more when the sound is stereo and near perfect.

Thanks again for all of the great work, can't wait to give you more money :p

Ohh, before I forget. Vobbo, can you please please look in to the Bonk's Adventure and Bonk's Revenge problems? I was trying to play these games today and they exhibit some very odd joystick behavior.

It seems to occur in both when you get the meat and become invincible for a short amount of time. MANY times when this happens, Bonk uncontrollably runs left. In some cases I was able to get back in control, but in some others there was nothing I could do except for exit the game (because Bonk was stuck pushing left). Very odd bug this one is.

I play those games frequently and I have never noticed the bug. However, it is an occasional hardware bug that the joystick arbitrarily registers left or right when it's not supposed to. Maybe that's what's wrong with your system?

Hmm, thats odd...because it never happened to me before....well until recent versions. Somebody else mentioned this in another thread too. So what you are saying is that it may be a hardware problem? If so, any easy fix for it? Where can I learn more about this issue? Lastly, can you test the latest version and play through a few rounds of Bonk 1 and 2? I tested it with v1.06 and v1.05...both did the same. My next step is to test with v1.02 tomorrow (I don;t remember having this problem with that version, but could be wrong)

When I think about it tho, how can this be a hardware bug when it ONLY happens with those games, and ONLY when you power up to invincibility? I really think it is a bug.

Good show -- a man of his word :D

You make a good point also. Some people need both cheerleaders and critics to spur them on... I just look better in a skirt ;)

Now to dig out my sole PCE-CD game and give it a whirl...

Well, waddaya know. It works FINE in v1.02. I knew I wasn't going crazy or having hardware issues!

I can recreate it every time in Bonk 1. When I get to the second level and bonk that pink guy to get the "big meat", right after consuming it and becoming invincible is when it happens.... the character pushes left. This does not happen in v1.02 at all. SO, it looks like I'll have to use that version in the mean time until the bug is sorted out.

Very, very strange

Well, some wierdness did happen after v1.02 (like Tatsujin locking up in v1.03 after collecting the first power-up) so I think I'll hang on to v1.02 just for safe keeping :) Some of the optimizations done after this version may have broken/caused bugs in some games...but I'm not the programmer so I don;t know for sure of course. Input Vobbo?

I was playing this also and had trouble with bonks control as he wall bites up cliffs...got the bite on, but I am sure you press up and hit bite to make him climb, I just could not get him to go up at all...

Need to dig out my PC Engine and Bonk Hu and have a go on a real machine...

Keep tapping the "bite" button. No need to push up.

Anyway, I took Sam's advise and left a feedback on Vobbo's site. Hopefully he can help. Thanks!

Hi everybody,

as one of those who asked for the lcd timing patch, I would thanks vobbo for his fast answer and release.
To me doesn't matter how long it will take reach 100%, just happy to know that he listen people who spot problems.
For all the others, maybe some people are more "anal" looking at how a rom run on an emu, but we are all grateful to those who make this possible.

Anyway, as for Pepone's gngeo I now have no excuses to donate!

So, which CDRom games have people been playing today?

I've just played StarParodia all the way to the end!! That game rocks.

I`m now playing Dynastic Hero , it rocks too!

I just tried "Sapphire" but it didn't work.. just a black screen.
I'm assuming this is because it needs the arcade cards in real life

???

Chill out guys! this emulator is beta!!

I still have alot of work to do on this emulator. I have worked very hard to get the graphics/cpu emualtion as perfect and compatible as possible, Sound is an ongoing project and will be improved.

I`ll add some more features to the emulator , savegame, removed LCD tweaks, fix the joypad remapping again , zip support , and then i`ll move back onto the sound and add wav/mp3 for the cdroms.

I am working as hard and fast as possible on this project, remember I`ve only had my GP2X for ~6 or 7weeks.

Also remember, this emulator is not a port... Its written from scratch from old documents I found related to the pc-engine hardware... Sound will be improved!

Personally, I think I`ve done a pretty damn good job so far... It plays more games than gp2xengine and squidgeengine , and the sound is massively improved from beta1.0

You will notice HU6280 boots alot of CDRom games that gp2xengine wont run also.

Vobbo :p

I am behind you 100% buddy. I think few people realize just how fast you are coding, and how much time you are spending on this. Trust me, WE ALL APPRECIATE YOUR WORK!!! Some just like to have constructive criticism in their posts, however we know that this is still a work in progress, and that you can direct the progress to however you seem fit, because its your emu.

I too appreciate the excellent work that Vobbo's done. I wouldn't have donated twice if that wasn't so. At the moment the emulator is basically at the point where there is really nothing I can moan about wrong with it (as I'm not a huge iso player) with the possible exception of it being nice if wide displays were centred as it'd make Mr Heli a bit easier. Other than that, any updates after this will be a pleasant surprise rather than something I'm nagging vobbo for every fifteen seconds. :)

Dammit DaveC,

I haddn't noticed the sound issues until I read your post! Now I can't stop hearing them! Argh!

Oh well I know it will be better soon enough, and your right It would be nice to have better sound support than some of the other features. :)

vobbo has spent many hours working on sound. im sure he just wants to take a little break from working on sound and add some other features in there. im very sure we will have perfection once this emulator is done but the order that things get done doesn't really matter.
