Just a heads up. It seems that if you plug in your headphones during the boot-up sequence, specifically during the green screen, the gp2x seems to crash. This is tested on FW2.0

Did you try to pull them out, then put em back in during the boot? Sometimes I bump my gp2x and it freezes in music player, so I just unplug it and plug it in again and it works o_O

Mine likes to crash if I insert or remove the headphones in a certain fashion. But this is after boot. If I plug in my headphones during boot the boot sound does NOT stop playing out of the speakers, it finishes first and then sound moves to my headphones. That seems to indicate jack sensing and control of which gets the audio signal is software controlled.

It doesn't crash, it somehow hangs (also happens sometimes when inserting headphones while playing MP3s).

Just unplug it and the gp2x will continue ;)
You can then plug it in again.

What I experience is a crash. If the machine is just halting, it's sure as hell not coming back. Sometimes the screen corrupts or goes dark when this happens. As if there was a short circuit somewhere.
