On with the theme of Dzz's post about a group game project, I thought I would make a poll that we could use to perhaps 'shortlist' what sort of genre the game should fall into. Nothing definite, but it would give us ideas and such.

I tried to include every genre I could think of, but I probably missed one. Sorry about that!

Allan.

I think it should be Racing. First of all because I love em'. Second of all is because there are no really good racing games for the GP2X yet.

(BTW I can help with artwork if needed.)

My all-time faves are Roguelikes. Presense and quality of Roguelikes on a system is actually my first criteria for judging the system. Though GP2X doesnt seem have too many of these (maybe it's just I haven't read enough FAQs, though), but porting something like NetHack or ADOM, or Moria, seems like a good idea to me.
And if I find a way to run Ragnarok/Valhalla (a roguelike, not MMORPG) on GP2X, then... then I'll be the happiest creature on Earth ;)

I love turn-based strategies, but I also have high standards. Racing (like Gran Turismo) would probably be my second choice.

DZZ has ported (early beta) a graphical Nethack already. Go look in the "Cool Ideas and other wishes" section for the thread.

I'd like to make it clear to people who haven't read the other thread that this is going to be a scratch-built game, not a port.

I think a combination platformer/RPG would be pretty cool (I guess Castlevania would be a good example of such).

Personally I just love turn-based strategy games, so that gets my vote.

For good examples of what could be achieved think of Rebel Star on the GBA (basically a cut-down xcom game) or battle for wesnoth.

However, no matter what the decision is I will still follow this project with interest and try to get involved if possible. My life is entering a pretty hectic spell at the moment (I'm moving house, job and even country!) so no guarantees, but I'd love to contribute in some way.

edit: My sole contribution to the scene so far is the title screen for gp2x port of pang... as a coder by profession I feel kind of ashamed at that!

Just a little bump, this post seems to have dissapeared in the couple of days I have been gone. :)

That's because it's been decided: Pinball it is.

Our almighty leader Dzz made a judgement call, and a good one if you ask me.
Thanks, but this data is still valuable. Our community is big enough to support multiple projects and there will be more projects in the future and it's useful to see what the community thinks a good idea would be.

Also, if it turns out that the pinball idea doesn't get support needed from artists and designers, we'll have to start over and try again with a different idea.
