The only real reason I buy it would be of Live Arcade. None of the retail games interest me so far.

i have to say there is a big difference when you switch over from the original xbox to the 360, and that is saying something because the xbox was a better machine than the PS2 to begin with.

the graphics are really nice, better looking than most pc games ive played up to date, and on a 52" plasma it is perfectly clear, thats what i play on.

i have DOA 4, GRAW and PDZ.

DOA 4 & graw have the best graphics, they all play good.. but out of them the first 2 that i mentioned are the best players.. PDZ is pretty good aswell though.

Saints row is looking good aswell, being a GTA clone i hope it does really well, but only time will tell.

I'd say its worth getting one, the only reason i'll be getting a PS3 is mainly just incase GTA 4 and one or 2 other games dont come out on the 360.. but if they do, we all know it usually takes like half a year for it to appear on the competitors console <_<

I've got one and I also have what I was told are the best two games - Oblivion and Ghost Recon. Oblivion is very good and quite addictive, but Ghost Recon is a bit of a handful and not much fun (more suited for hardcore PC FPS fans, I think).

Graphics wise, the thing that has impressed me is the plants and fauna in Oblivion. There aren't any other XBox 360 games that interest me at the moment, so it is a good job the Oblivion is great otherwise I would feel fairly disappointed.

I've been thinking of getting one for awhile partly because of nice shiny new thing syndrome but glad i have waited as the idea has now warn of as gamewise there nothing that particularily strikes me worth getting once you strip away the nice shiny graphics. XBOX has good games but theres no killer app interms of must have game, although i guess you caould say it does have a killer app in terms of online connectivity which is supposed to be really good, but as i have lway had little or no interest in online gaming not my cup of tea.

waste of money still at this time, paying for the novelty. For me, i'll just be patient and wait a couple years when i can pick up a pre owned one for like $150. and by that time there should be a good amount of games out to chose from.

hmm, well a whopping 10 people say no

I was thinking og getting one assuming my crappy laptop wont be able tp handle oblivion, and right now Im freaking dying to give that game a shot. Im also a little curious regarding the online service, and if I get one I can try it out and see if I like online play. Both those reasons combined with the shiny new device syndrome as skysnapper pointed out are egging me on to buy one.

Ill let a few more votes go through and see if oblivion runs before I start to think about it really seriously.

thanks guys, I value your opinions :)

You should hardly decide based on nay-sayers that don't event bother leaving a post telleing you why...
Their "no" could mean anything from "just wait a while" to "The 360 sucks".

You should really have explained the reason for the consideration (playing Oblivion) a bit earlier if people where to help you decide.

It's the title you want to play - Perhaps the real question is "should I upgrade my PC or buy a Xbox 360?"

I'm not going to cast a vote myself since I don't really have any wxperience with Oblivion or the 360....
I just think you only should take the posts in consideration - and not the votes :)

if oblivion is the case then you need to decide what about the long run. AFAIK online games are probably easier to play on a computer, and there are probably more. There will be PC exclusive games in the future that will force you to upgrade if you want to play them, if just for one game, that i also hear is better on PC, i think you should upgrade your pc. In the long run you may have more fun with PC gaming with an upgraded PC than console gaming.

I was waiting for the whole "upgrading is a wiser choice argument" :p

I issue is, Im going to college for a year locally then God willing if I have great grades I intend to transfer to Cornell Vet school. I currently have a laptop, and while it's decent for gaming (runs CoD2 and HL2), I can only make one more small upgrade to the video card memory upping it from 32 (i think that's what I currently have) to 64mb. Then upgrading is no longer an option.

While I was definitly thinking about getting a nice pc with the best video card they make, there are 2 problems:

1: With college and all, buying a pc is more of a headache then I want. A laptop will do just fine for now.

2: Im broke ;).

I have like $1000 saved from my 18th bday, which would be more than enough to get a 360 and a game or 2, so I was thinking at this point that would be the better option.

and there's my logic :)

Ok. The money is burning a hole in your pocket, thats more than obvious :p

Your laptop situation probably is not worth the upgrade, in that case then i'd probably chose the 360, agian, though, that would be depending on when and what you are going to buy as a desktop PC. If your going to be buying a high end Gaming quality PC within a year, then i say, just wait the year and go for the PC, UNLESS, by that time there are some real killer aps for the 360.

I just voted no. The reason being that, as with any game system, wait until you see the game that says, "I must have that game to play!" written all over it. Example, I did not go out and buy the PS2 when it first hit the shelves. When FF10 came out, I ran to the store. Don't buy a game system because it is "nice and shiny." In the long run it is the games that will make you happy, not the hardware. Eye candy lasts until the game play begins. :D Wait until there are enough games that catches your interest that would justify the purchase. In the meantime you would probably enjoy the computer upgrade a whole lot more.

Goddamn you kids these days are too rich for your own good.

Since graphics cards started costing serious money, and Microsoft has a 6 year old OS. PC gaming sucks compared to the console market. Oh and everything is online. I'd rather play with the person next to me(You know what I mean  )

Seriously what kind of answer is expected from this poll. Brand buying at best.

Next generation console gaming is a mess. I hope everyone is as confused as me. It should be exiting...but I'm not; next generation gaming just costs too much; too much "oh no more" franchises.

I will buy a PS3 if its is a cheap supercomputer running linux, which I doubt, but then it would be my desktop PC.
I will be buying a nintendo if the contoller allows me to play ultra violent games, Using 2 contollers as Uzi's while yelling "You like apples", but I wont its Nintendo (Bad Fur day was a one off).
I would have bought a 360 if it was an X-box2 and just a glorified PC inside which allowed chipping fun, large hard drives, media center fun, emulation and linux etc etc a la x-box, which it isn't.

I suspect If I was buying now. I would get a mini-itx http://www.mini-itx.com/ and have a belting stepmania, retro gaming PVR. I suspect when I buy in a years time, when the dust has settled on next-gen consoles that is what I will be buying.
