Yo Is Snes Really That Bad

I plan on getting a gp32_console (any one I can get) & I just want to know if it is bad.

It isn't that bad. Many games are playable - but compared to Mega Drive emulation, and 8-bit console emulation (which are full speed with sound) it does not look so attractive.

THX alot :) ! ppl said that it is not that shitty  , and that it's playable!

Depends on your definition of playable. It is not full speed and the framerate is poor if you are playing with sound. The transparencies are also not rendered. So if you want smooth framerates with sound and transparencies like a real SNES it sucks. If you don't mind playing heavily overclocked, and no transparencies then it is fine. It all depends on the person.

DaveCs view is harsh but fair. The emulation does not really give you the full SNES experience, but Flashback and Donkey Kong Country (for example) are certainly playable. As I said before, compared with other emulators for lesser machines it is not such a great experience (playing SNES games) but it is playable.

Yes :p
It's ok to ask questions, just PLEASE search the boards first. And when you can't find what you're looking for, make sure you make your questions clear and understandable to the people reading them. In this case, make sure you include your definition of "bad" when relating to snes emulation instead of saying "mortifying". This doesn't really tell us whether slow framerates, choppy sound, and missing transparencies would be considered "bad".

I wouldn't buy a GP32 for SNES emulation only, as Gameboy (Color), NES, SMS, Genesis, C64, Atari 800, Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, and others are perfect. However, SNES is a very nice bonus. I can play Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario World, full speed with sound (overclocked with FS2).

That's not all I want the gp32_console for! I want to buy it considerably for NES, MAME, gameboy, maybe some Genesis, DOOM, and others along the way too. Also, there are crazy programs out there, so I'd like to utilze those too! :D

really? at what clock speed? I find DKC very playable at fs2 with sound (oc'ed to 166) with osnes.2, but I find that mario is just too choppy with sound...

Alex really hit the nail on the head though; don't but a gp32 for snes

edit: you will be very happy with all the things you mentioned, esp doom; it looks and playes great on a BLU. Just a heads up about MAME- it can be difficult to get working roms, you will most likely have to convert them using... whats the hells that program called... if you search, you will easily find it

edit 2: thanks Alex

Hmm... nah, SNES is actually pretty good as of SquidgeSnes 0.35 (I've yet to try Reesy's hacks). However, it does lack transparencies, and if you're hoping to play with much less than FS2 you'll have problems. And I have not tried any mode 7 based games (I'm hoping eventually they'll get a little faster). Everything done at default clock speed too; I'll try overclocking once it's implemented in emu but not before, I think.

Basically, imagine running a snes emu on a 100MHz PC before any of them came up with transparencies (say, Snes95 or something) and you're pretty close to how it is on the 2x. Not perfect by any means, and lots of games are too slow, but are many of them still fun? Yup.

I see

Well I use OpenSNES9x Reesy, OC'ed to 184Mhz (see pencil trick), with sound and FS2. I mostly get 18-20 FPS out of Super Mario World if I remember correctly. DKC runs like a dream. I rarely play SNES games though, as NES, Gameboy, SMS, Genesis, and GPDoom eat more of my time than is acceptable to begin with. :(
