Help..! My New Gp2x Does Not Work

I'm not sure how long the bundled charger takes, it was recommended by the Ansmann distributor in the uk. He didn't seem to rate the quick chargers at all. I leave the batteries in it over night and they are always fully charged when I wake up.

my 2500 mah batterys take 12 hours to change so im not sure mate

what product battery are you using?

They are the official ones recomended by GP2X site, they are Ansmann NiMH2600.

Well even if they're not fully charged atm, pop them in the 2X anyway, just to see if it starts ok. Then, continue charging them.

Well I just popped them in to see what happens, still no joy :( Will leave them charging over night and see what happens in the morning.

aww :( mate this is really bad, if its the same problem happening again i would imagine it being the unit, and not the batterys!

im sure where ever you got it from you will be able to return it without any problem! i managed to return mine due to a headphone problem ;) so it should be ok to return it :)

good luck mate :)

so any luck mate?

Just put a set of fully charged batteries in and still no luck :( I am so depressed.
I even went out yesterday and bought a card reader in anticpation of the GP2X working.
Not sure what to do now, will probably have to go through all the hassle of trying to return it to http://gp2x.co.uk/indexgp2x.html

Sorry man, happens to all of us at one point or another. Luckily, GP2X.co.uk (well, GBAX) are very good with returns from what I've heard, so you should have no problems.

Cheers m8, will give them an email in a bit to see what they have to say.

well don't lose any of your enthusiasm though! When you will have a working unit, you are going to forget all about the hassle... it's such a great piece of hardware! My unit wouldn't turn on with batteries at all when I got it. So I was really disappointed, but I could play it with an AC adaptor. Doing this for quite a while I suddenly discovered that batteries started to work perfectly...
So now I am soo glad that I got it... I hope you are going to enjoy it as much as I am!

Thanks xnopasaranx, I have SNES, Megadrive & MAME emulators running on my XBOX, but can't wait to be able to put them on my GP2X and take them with me.

Is it really essential to have a AC Adaptor for your GP2X as surely a pair of fully charged 2600NiMH batteries should be enough for most tasks.

I don't have an AC adapter and I do fine. I've upgrade the firmware 4 times and I've upgraded the U-boot once and they work fine; Just make sure they are fully charged when you attempt to upgrade your firmware or u-boot.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I returned my GP2X on Monday and have recieved a replacement this morning, and it works.

Slapped my 2GB SD Card in with a copy of last weeks Family Guy in XVID format and it works a treat.

I am so happy, thanks everone and especially http://gp2x.co.uk/indexgp2x.html

It says on my boot up screen that I have firmware 1.21 installed, can somebody point me in the direction of a really good idiots guide to upgrading firmware to 1.4. I don't want to wreck my GP2X so soon.

Have to say transfering files to my 2GB SD card is lightning fast. I bought a USB SD Card Reader and my 150x SD card transfers files on to it almost as fast as if it was a hard drive.

Here's a WALKTHROUGH written by TheFr00n (post #10) . It was made for Cramfs, but works for 1.4 too.

Thanks virusx
