I was following the release of the GP2X a few months ago, needless to say the release condition of the product was unacceptable. So are the problems with the headphone jack, broken joystick, and messed up screen taken care of? Thanks.

... if you've read things here, you'd know the answer to your questions. <_<

Thx for video link. I have wanted to ask about the general state of the GP2X myself. This is a good place for info, but one tends to only pick up the bad things about the GP2X. It's hard to get an overall picture. Still I am very tempted to buy one, especially since the development of MAME on the GP32 seems to have come to an halt...

It isn't totally unacceptable. Mine (up to now) has had no problems and given me nothing but enormous pleasure.

Hey, I've had four months of joy that you will never have had! Nernernernerneeeerrrhhh!

I've had mine about 2 months and it's been perfect so far *touches wood*. It's given me nothing but entertainment and i'm very very happy with it, completely worth it's fairly low price tag. :D

Some of the "first edition" units had some problems with the headphone socket and a slightly flickering screen. Later production line don´t have those issues anymore.

My first unit arrived defective (wouldn't power up unless plugged into the wall with an AC adapter.) The retailer was great about the return, and have had no issues with my new one, even after 2 falls > 4 feet on a hard floor... Well, I had to bend the Battery contacts back out, but after that, worked fine.

Ok thanks, so all the things im thinking about are related to the first editions.
I'd be the first to recommend the gp2x, but there still seems to be the odd build quality issue. My non-first edition unit's headphone socket fell through into it today, which was a bit upsetting.

It hadn't ever been really right, only sometimes cutting sound to the main speakers when headphones were inserted, but having only used the socket five or six times, and carefully at that, I didn't expect it to pull this stunt!

Don't expect perfection, is all I'm saying. It's a great console, with a few issues that affect some units.

Well, a friend of mine had to solder my unit 2 times in the headphone-jacket area (once for headphone detectin, the other time for music) but well, all I can say is:

IT WAS WORTH IT :)

It's a great unit, and if you really get a faulty unit return it and get a flawless one :).

I am getting one soon, can the headphone problem develop over time, like if the unit works fine at first can the headphones loosen up?

And if so whould i be acting paranoid to open the unit up and place some superglue around the headphone jack to secure it in place? or whould that just lead to more problems?

My headphone socket fell the first time I managed to plug my headphones
If you're about to open your unit, I think you should put more solder on the 4 headphone jack's pins.
It will be better than "superglueing" everything on your board.

EDIT : I'm very happy of this handled btw

What about emulators? I remember when I was interested before there were almost no stable emulators. Now I notice there is a Neo-Geo one. Anything else working stably?

Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, SNES, NES, Genesis/Megadrive, SMS/GG, PC-Engine all run fast enough for me to play them, if not full speed.
