is there a flasher (like the one on http://www.gbax.com/firmware) available for the oddbot-kernel?

Yeah, I need one of those too :( Is there a kind soul working on one?

Kernel update wouldnt work for me at first either, i had to install the official 1.4 firmware using robsters installed available
here and then update to theoddbots kernel.

i did the update to the 1.4 firmware previously using the said flasher and it worked without a hitch.

after that done it is still impossible to update to the oddbot-kernel using the standard method (same prob as before, no sd-cards containing the oddbot-kernel do the updating at startup)

glad it worked for you after flashing to the 1.4 fw Turambar.

but my problem still persists and it would be much appreciated, if someone would help me and the others out (shouldn't be so difficult though for you more experienced guys to mod the flasher :) )

ok, if this makes the nand read only, what about adding a new skin? I thought the skin writes to the nand from the sd?

There's a skin changer for this thing at the archive.

doesnt seem to work for me, still got a long boot time more like 25 secs not 15, i want my money back

What was your boot time before? Did the kernel upgrade work?

what do you mean by work? i didnt get any "fimware patching" screen like with GPH updates, but after booting the .IMG file had dissapeared, so it must have worked then deleted itself, i tried a few times.

boot time never changed

Nope.. it doesn't chekc to see if it worked before deleting the IMG file.

Sounds like, like myself, auto-update doesn't work for you. We need to hope someone decides to be kind and make an updater...

The .IMG file is automatically deleted when the flash doesn't work too eg if your SD card isn't compatible.

Ok, had the 1.4 beta, decided to try this, put the gpu file and the kernal on my compatible sd, and tried. Unfortunately, it updated and then hung on the green loading screen....I got fucking spooked, but i managed to put on the 1.4 release fine. now everything's ok, and im going to try again

wish me luck.

12.5 seconds from flicking the switch to getting the GP2X menu, fantastic!!!! :D

Thanks theoddbot :D

You have to run the gpu before you flash the kernel.
i put them both on my sd at once and I couldnt ge to the menu after that

@daclassicgamingmaster. If it helps this is what I did step by step.

I copied the cramfs-0.0.4.dump to my SD card with the flash_cramfs.gpu.

Started my GP2X.

Ran the flash_cramfs.gpu from the utility menu, takes 2-3 minutes to finish.

Shut down.

Formatted SD card copied just the gp2xkernel.img to my SD card.

Turned on the GP2X, got the firmware upgrading message waited for the upgrade to finish and the GP2X menu to appear.

Turned off my GP2X.

Turned on my GP2X, boot time 12.5 seconds. :D

bah! Are you sure you taking into account the actual moment the switch goes down? If you are I want your GP2X, two seconds is like an eternity with this new firmware! :p

And be sure to use a stopwatch none of this one mississippi, two mississippi nonsense. :p

haha I was in the computer room in my school when psymastr was boasting about his 17 second boot time (before this was released). Then I flipped his switch and timed it to be exactly 27 seconds LOL. Then he says "I was doing it with mississippis"...

true story!
