Tilematch V0.6

Would you mind sending me your latest version? And did you finish adding skin support or should I have a go at doing that for you? I don't really want to steal your project from you, but if I can help you in any way I'd be happy to.
Sent!

FluffyPanda, support for themes is half implemented right now. I just released this new version without it because I wanted to solve the sound problems with firm 1.4. But it's there (if you check the 'data' folder, you'll notice a 'themes' subfolder, and there's a reason for it :)). Check the code ('GestorTemes', meaning 'ThemeManager') and if you're interested in finishing it, let me now and I'll tell you how I thought it should work and we can discuss it. Basically, It let's you change, not only images, but sounds and music as well.

Btw, I just noticed I forgot to remove some couts... Ooops... :)

Just wanna 2nd 8bitpeoples, lots of great stuff on there. There is also the High Voltage SID stuff and there is an equivalent Atari 800 archive also. Thousands of old school tunes. :)

~telengard
About 8bitpeoples, I wanted to use some of their tunes for Beat2X, a Stepmania-like game (check 2nd screen from the top row in the coding compo screenshots page), and I sent them an e-mail after reading the Creative Commons license they use (which says that they can't be used for derivative work) and Nullsleep was really interested in it. He asked me to send him a list of tunes I'd like to use so that he could contact the artists and ask them for permission. This happened on Feb 1st, I sent them that list, tried to contact them a few days later, and I'm still waiting for an answer. Well, I'll have to be patient... :)

So, in the meantime, do you know what's the license of those High Voltage SIDs? Would it be possible for me to convert them to OGGs and publish them in separate packs? Do you have an URL?

Under these Terms and Conditions, it is possible to add it for free provided we source where it came from and it is unaltered...
Shikaku, I ask you the same as I did to Telengard. Well, in this case I don't think I need to convert them to OGG as SDL_mixer has support for MODS (but I have never tested it). Are all the files in the MOD Archive under the same license you're mentioning? I'm interested both for Tilematch and Beat2X, but specially for the second one.

Thanks.

Great game miq01, I'm hooked and it's very polished too!

Have you thought of styling up the menu and in-game info panel at all with more of the Zoo Keeper style graphics? The DS version is really lovely, and I guess this is a new game rather than a port, but the original graphics work very well and make it a bit easier to see the timer going down and the various quotas in the panic!

Glad to hear there IS in-game music and that we may get some more choices, and also about the themes, as I'd love to play it with different skins even though the ZK theme is lovely.

I'm not very good it it yet, but I'm getting better...

Great work, I love it - thanks so much miq01!!

Thanks Shirohagen!

Well, this game was started from stratch, so you're right: it's not a port. I agree with you that the DS version looks nicer and more clear than mine, specially for the available time and quotas. But I'm working on another game (Beat2X) and for now the only changes I'm going to do in Tilematch are those involving themes.

It's not a "no", but a "maybe sometime". :)

All the MODs uploaded to ModArchive are available under that license. However, it has a HUGE amount of them, and a lot of them are bad. I'll make a couple of OGGs and PM some to you later that I think would be good for Tilematch/Beat2X, along with the MODs.

If you want to seriously look through it yourself, start here under "gems." I would download a random MOD though and test it to see if and how it works.

EDIT: とにかく、日本人ですか?

Thank you for the info and for the OGGs!

In case anyone is interested, here is a list of free music sites. I'm going to use some of them for sure.

Tilematch rules (even though I suck). This game is very addicting. Miq01, I know you said you won't be doing too many updates, but would you consider (would it be possible) implementing a "blockout" style of gameplay, much like the PopCap game Treasure Quest (on MSN games)?
EDIT: sorry, the game is Jewel Quest (duh)

Just tried Jewel Quest, and I like the idea of "painting" the cells when matching tiles... I'll consider implementing it.

that would be an awesome feature. Maybe you could have 2 "modes" of play. Jewel Quest is incredibly addicting too, but it's a completely different mindset than matching certain tiles. You can match any tiles as long as you "paint" the area and complete the level. I don't know how far you played, but as you get farther, there are "locked" tiles that can't be moved until you match up tiles with it. This doesn't paint the tile, but merely unlocks it so it can now be moved or painted (it kind of doubles the difficulty). It's hard to explain unless you play it.... at any rate, I would love Tilematch to have this feature and it would definately be my #1 game then! Keep up the good work

Wouldn't that make it 4 modes of play?

Or haven't you noticed time attack and 100 tiles? :D

I'm sooo adicted to this game! It's really interfering with me getting off the tube at the right stop in the mornings, and now I know how to play it with the in-game music, I'm loving the soundtrack and the genius use of the voice synth "Tilematch GP2X" bit!

Great work miq01, I know you're busy with Beat2X (and I'm going to try that next) but any work on Tilematch will find a dedicated audience here!

What clockspeed does it run at? Perhaps you could deliberately run it at as low a speed as possible so that our batteries last longer...

Thanks again, it's the best puzzler (and maybe homebrew game) on the GP2X so far for me!

Ya, a lower clock speed would be nice, as the FPS meter gives me 175-180 lol. There is also a bug that gives rare slowdown when getting a big combo (2 animal lines at once, in an L shape gives lag.)

Good idea. Now it runs at 200 MHz. I'll try to find how to lower the frequency in the Wiki and I'll implement it.

Has anyone else notice that? I've never seen that bug. I've just tested it again and that doesn't happen to me.

I'm in exactly the same position as Nickmon, anyone got any ideas how to solve this?

Never noticed this bug before. Maybe it was a coincidence and the GP2X was doing that skipping thing it does now and again?

never noticed the bug. This game is truly addictive...even though I've only made it to level 12! Oh ya, and if you did add the "Jewel Quest" feature (yes, that would be 4 modes of play, duh) I might be willing to give you my first born child

LOL, its very rare. I play your game a lot (expect a donation soon, when I get some money together). And i see it rarely, but its there. Once every 25 plays, and only once on that play, starting at around level 18 it may appear. Its been higher and lower, and only happends once. So its not a serious bug.

That reminds me that I should have a Paypal account. :)

And about the bug, well, my girlfriend and I have played it lots of times and have never seen it. Now I don't play it often, but my girlfriend does and she is really good (level 20 or more) and never noticed that.

Who knows... Maybe it's something related to the (less than) 1 sec hiccups that happen sometimes when playing games/emus on the GP2X.

Thanks Mikey242, Mooseknuckle2000 and PSyMastR for the info.

Ya, that could be it. As its always less then 1 sec.

EDIT: I was wondering, do you think there will ever be a mode like this you would consider doing, or is that considered a whole new game?
