Joystick Cap Confusion

I'm a bit confused about the cap on my joystick.

I've been playing Shadowrun religiously for the past couple of days, and I've only just noticed that the cap now rotates freely over the shaft. Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't remember it doing this before. And it also now freely lifts off. Any ideas? Should I just bite the bullet and make/buy/stumble upon a new cap? Personally I don't really have any issues with the cap itself or the joystick (oh, alright, the diagonal thing was annoying at first, but I barely notice it these days, and it makes Spout nice and playable.)

Allan.

Hmm the cap shouldn't rotate?

Btw.. OT:
Shadow run for megadrive/genesis?

The character portraits to the right of the screen don't show up for me, in game, do you have the same issue?

I did notice that the cap does loosen up if you've got one with a trimmed shaft. I've actually glued my cap on now. It's not permanent as a good tug (or some solvents) should remove it. I actually glued it on a fraction of a mm higher than it was and it stopped the cap hitting the casing making it much easier to use. My cap's been dipped in plastidip too so I get good grip.

*notes before he god a GP2X he never modded a console himself*

I haven't trimmed the shaft, and pressing the cap in seems to do nothing. It's sort of like it's gouged itself a new hole.

Allan. (by the way, same Shadowrun, and no portrait issues - sounds lik a dud rom)

That cap is soft plastic. That is why I made mine from a tougher nylatron, it should hold up better.
