Stella For Gp2x

I'm having a problem in that the roms are not even showing in the selector. I just get the green screen with "Stella" and ".." for changing directories, but no roms listed. I have my roms in SD\2600\roms. ALl 4 stella files are in the 2600 folder. It didn't create the roms folder on first run, so I just added it. Before I had any roms in the folder I got a black screen and never even got to the selector.

My roms were originally with the .a26 extension and I renamed them to .rom. THey are not in a zip archive. I have even tried shortening the names to a single 8 character word with no effect. I have tried a number of roms. Is there a trick to getting the selector to even recognize the roms?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

How many roms do you have in your ROM folder? Anything over 255 and it causes the loader to hang. If you can't get it to run, then don't worry, 2.1 is coming out *VERY* soon. I can't tell you exactly when (that's at the author's discretion) but it will not be very long at all. The new version is very user friendly and you will not have this issue. Make sure you have the 7mb executable ( the 'stella' file) and not the 2mb which was up for all of 30 minutes after the initial release. I tried compressing the exec and it screwed up massively.

Just download and replace all four files and cut your number of roms down below to 255 and there should be no reason why it won't work. If it still doesn't, then the new version is due out shortly and you shouldn't have any issues there. Also remember that linux is case sensitive so the GP2X is as well. 'Roms' does not equal 'ROMS' which does not equal 'roms' ('roms' being the correct casing).

Will this new release have sound? I sure hope so that would be awsome.

Yes. You can check the specs in this thread about 5 to 8 posts ago. I think it will be shocking for most of you who have grown used to the alpha. I hope it's a pleasant surprise.

Wow great, does it also allow the use of the "case 2" joystick bias that helps to not get the accidental diaganals?

How is the speed? Full speed with no FS?

Yes, normal gameplay with no frameskipping and 'case 2' with horizontally and vertically biased mapping on the joystick.

WOW you guys are really L337 :)

Can't wait for this, sounds like high quality stuff :)

I'm pleased as can be.... outstanding stuff.. *smiles wide* I wonder what the POOR people are doing today... (I'm poor, but I like to pretend I'm not) This just makes me a happy camper all round. Adventures of Tron, Deadly Discs, Yars Revenge, to a lesser extent, E.T... Brings me right back.

Almost compliments my Atari Flashback 2. Still gotta crack that thing open and do a bit of creative wiring so I can swithc back and forth from 2600 cartidges too.

Thank you Zan, you've made my night.

Any news on this?

Awesome emu!

One thing I noticed; The joystick seems to 'stick' somewhat during gameplay ... I was trying to move left playing Spider Fighter and the ship just stopped abruptly, but started moving again with another tap to the left.

It also happened in River Rescue.

Otherwise, it's damn good! :)

This rocks!!!... so far it has run everything I have thrown at it full speed with sound.

A suggestion is it possible to make the shoulder buttons move one page at a time in the rom selctor screen? I have a lot of games on there and it takes a while to get to the bottom. :)

Wow. And the award for most improved EMU between releases is...

But seriously, great job. I agree with those that have stated something is wrong with the 'sticking', for instance, when PLaying Yars revenge you will suddenly stop moving while turning.

Most everything seems to work, wizards of War an He-Man didn't get past the loading screen, but they might be bad roms og mine.

Wow, looks and sounds great. Though I just played Berzerk and the controls were unusable

I just tried Adventure and it's the same thing. The controls are completely f*ed.

Even moving the mouse around in the menu is screwed. Could this be due to the joystick filtering? Can you add an option to turn it off? I don't have this problem with anything else.

Yeah I just tried this and while it runs at full speed with sound and has great compatibility, the controls unfortunately render it unplayable :(

It is like when it hits an intermediate diagonal (ex sw1 +sw2 from my chart) it gets confused and just freezes. Either that or a 2 switch combination is just handled like a "no input" like in case 4 from my chart (click on chart my sig). You then have to let the stick go to neutral before it will accept any input.

It needs to use my case 2 control where an intermediate diagonal gives an X or Y input like shown below.

Also scroll wrap in the ROM selector would be nice. So for example you are in the "a"s and want a game that is in the "z"s instead of scrooling down and waiting a while you could press "up" and it would wrap to the Z games and continue up to Y and so forth.
