Usb Otg

If the USB host is linked to EXT, and so is TV-Out, surely that will mean we need some kind of dock if we want to use both at once?

Wow, GP2X docking station... I'd buy one of those.

You could just make a passthru for the TV Out plug that allows the USB to be plugged in as well, you don't NEED a dock.

You guys are putting way to much thought into this, it is only two wires.

Open up TV-out adaptor, check for pins, if pins are missing, buy a samsung e810 charger on ebay for $2.

Take extra pins, solder to usb, supply power externally, close TV-out adaptor.

Better yet,

Buy the plug from Nigel Brown's site.
connect cables in the length you desire with the connectors/devices you desire.

I would have a 6-foot Composite Video (extra thin cable) and stereo with it(also extra-thin cable), then a chatboard, and the USB host and Device 1.1 for the magiceyes, then my own jtag on the side of the plug(5 pins, with a cap)

and a 3 pin serial on the other side of the plug, also capped.

OTG isn't supported by the extra USB2.0 chip in the gp2x.
Not sure if it is supported by the MMSP2 1.1 chip, but who needs it is it supports host mode?
who NEEDS a game system ? :p

i just WANT a host mode because i have a MP3 player that can be a self powered hard drive, and that i always have with me, have you checked the prices of 4Go SD cards? they are more expensive than my 30Go player! :D

the GP2X can read movies, good things, but not from a SD cards, except for peoples who already have a good collection of SD cards; and it's only an example, i also hope to be able to run apps from an external storage thing ;)

but there are many other funny things to do with this USB port ;)

I think he meant that the MMSP2 USB don't support the "On The Go" specification, but that it is irrelevant if it turns out the Host USB is functional after all.

lots of things! like USB wifi and all the hundreds of other usb thingies! i think developing usbwifi or bluetooth (wifi prefered for me anyway) should be priority one, in my book anyway what would be cooler than a web browser on this thing! wonder if you could use more than one thing on the ext usb port at once? the usb wifi and a keyboard or somesuch (like the chatboard or one of those folding keyboards

A web browser COULD already be made, and someone SHOULD be developing one, because you can run HTML and Javascript offline, without a need to be online, so it's not like they couldn't test it. Someone should work on it now, so we would have a nice working browser by the time we finally do get a way to get online. ;)

Besides, then we can have pretty looking Readme's ;P And us web designers could have a bit of fun designing sites on the Go. ^_^

we need a nice pda browser to port or somesuch, i have zero coding know how so i can track down possible to port stuff mebe but thats about it lol

Porting a PDA browser is not good imho, most of them don't display certain things right, or can't handle certain scripts. Maybe we could port Dillo?

fraid i dont know a whole lot about browsers cept i know what i like, i ahve used firefox since firebird .7 ive used opera IE sucks balls, hel i have even used spry MOSAIC V1 lol

if it is possible to port i say FF all the way! remove extensions support and whatnot trim it down abit you know but it would be perfect

The USB2.0 chip in the GP2x does't support OTG though.
This is only a problem if you want the GP2X to be able to read files from off the USB OTG device. You could use an OTG device (such as this hard drive), to transfer files to and from your GP2X.
The host in USB OTG is defined by which way you plug the USB cable in, so if you plugged the host end into the hard drive, and the client end into the GP2X this should work. The PSP doesn't support USB-OTG, so this must be how this drive works. Unfotunatly, considering the problems people have been experiencing with getting there GP2X's to be detected by a computer as a mass storage device I don't know whether this will work or not.

9. USBH1-
10. USBH1+
11. USBD-
12. USBD+
20. +3.3V
13. GND

Well, Well. :D

If one of those is what I think it is, then GPH has gone from bumbling to brilliant.

Also, to all the naysayers that says you need an extra battery for USB Host to work.

look at this:

http://www.maxim-ic.com/quick_view2.cfm/qv_pk/1878

Yes a 3.3V to 5V DC-DC Step up. Dam the batteries!
Size and hacking the Kernel to support USB host will be the hardest parts.

I'm thinking of a small square box that has Host ports and the DC step-up that will attach to the back of the system. Possibly L shaped. So it can attach to the EXT and sit attached to the back, perhaps with velco and strong adheasive.

Any EE that are bored around here? this sounds like a good side project...

You need 500mA to power USB things, though that may work for keychains and other small things. I've looked into it before, but forgotten the chip I found. You'll need a boost regulator and an inductor. You should be able to leech the power from 2 other pins on the port. You probably want the H+/- pins, not the Ds.

yep, this drive writes on the memory card, does backups and replace files etc, but all by using the PSP (or the GP2X :D) as a cardreader, but it's still more ergonomic than moving files one by one and everything manually like with some other OTG devices ;)

no, it's badly detected by WINDOWS XP, but work with computers as far as i know, if they run linux :p

for example mine doesn't work with XP if i don't i put a 1.1 hub on it, but works perfectly on linux and on my MP3 player's HOST function! ;)

Jees U R dumb!!!!

I think D stands for device

How about H means host.

Edit: maybe you just messed up when you went to bold the text.

Well considering I have heard that the EXT docs may be innacurate, and the fact that USBD+/- refers to USB DATA (part of USB SPEC) not device. H1 is more likely the host. Hey I did not name them. Its from the wiki. Also nobody knows if these pinouts are correct/connected in all cases. (might only be for dev units or something). This REALLY needs to be tested ASAP.

definatly, if i had the time and money i would order one of those plug things from toyz 4 boyz and mess around with it, but i dont know any coding or anythnig so it would be a bit pointless for me to

USB WiFi would be nice....

You know, if host mode is functional, they could definitely plaster that up on the site as another feature.
