GP2X Up For A Quick Port?

Oh and not so easy, but a killer app would be 'Battle for Wesnoth' which just released its 1.0 Version

Wesnoth would rock, but I don't know how good it would be without the mouse and on the small screen.

Battle for Wesnoth looks great, got to download and give it a go. Why don't you email them and ask if they want to port it?

Thanks to the 12+ way joystick it will be far better then a regular 8 way pad to controll the pointer. Although it would have been nice with an anlogue stick or at least a 2 speed stick that could tell the difference between a light and hard press.

I asked the Wesnoth people before, and they are swamped as it is, and I'm sure they all go to school. They said they would need someone to support the GP2X kinda like they have OSX, Linux, and windows guys.

Ahh, decent gives me a headache, although I played quite a bit of it, it's a very disorienting game. But I will play it for hours on end if it's ported I'm sure :p

Thanx,
Stan

I was wondering if we could set up a database with a list of all SDL games or applications possible to convert to the GP2X.

Then we can associate developers with each one to ensure that we dont have two developers porting the same game.

I have a few games I'm thinking about porting, and I'd be really annoyed if some pro coder beat my release. :)

I guess we could do the same for emulators, but competition is a good thing for emulation. =)

I've ported a few things, and now settling down to actually get the UAE and Quake ports to be something complete. I don't want to do any more ports yet. I'd rather have 1 complete project rather than 10 quick ports which are incomplete.

I read a google-translation of a thread from gp32spain and if I understood it right, there are some people who want to port wesnoth.

It also would be my favourite port, but I don't know enough to do it myself yet.

This is a really good idea, not much use before the release of the SDK however but would be cool if someone could make a start on it.

I was just thinking a pinup Forum topic in this thread. "Developers' Corner [GP2X]" So that we can start generating a list of possible games and the developers that would like to port each one.

battle of wesnoth is awesome, but the problem is that it needs a huge resolution. you should play it in 1024x768. So i cant imagine it on a 320x240 screen

First of all someone mentioned that you are able to compile wesnoth with a resolution of 320x240. Secondly I played around with some screenshots and I think it would be very nice to play it on this resolution if you arrange the menus a bit differently.

I guess that could be included in the developer WIKI at wiki.gp2x.org ?

I'm not sure I agree although. I do think it would benefit from the 2D chip doing a bit of zooming etc because it does benefit from a big screen. Although I do think that a a more Heros of Might and Magic approach would be fun although this will *never* happen, but I think would look cool, and be very practicle on the small screen.

Maybe to make Wesnoth work on a small screen there has to be a mini map come up with a button, and then where you click on the mini map you're taken to. Every army can have a colored dot so you can tell everyone apart. Also, Wesnoth is a turn based game, not real-time so it's not like you have to make decisions too quickly.

I started a thread about porting Wesnoth a while ago but no one seemed interested. Is it because it has a 1.0 release now? I've been playing it for about 2 or 3 years now and think it's a little slow (turn based) but fun to play with a few people.

If I had a GP2X I'd be willing to give Descent a shot... Infact I keep thinking about it. Alas I don't have one to test it on. Also It would be my first port so would probably suck ;)

(oh and yes it has been literally years since my last post on here)

Just remember that Decent 2 on SDL also read Decent 1 binaries. So it would be best to start on Decent 2.

I've heard a lot of people interested in this one. So I'll pull out my interest and start porting other games.
