ive decided its time for me to get a new guitar, and i was wondering if any more experienced players could give me some advice. I want an electric, whch isnt too heavy but preferably has a humbucker just as an option (but this isnt by any means essential). I looked a fender telecaster or a jaguar, but the jag was a bit too pricey and the tele didnt leave much room for variation.

ANyone offer any advice?

A bit of everything really. At the moment im into strumming stuff, but i play everything from the white stripes to mcfly. Im not sure if youve heard of a band called Eels, but im playing a lot of their stuff at the moment as its nice and varied. But yeah, pretty much everything.

So how much money do you have to spend?

A mate has one of These and says its the best one he owns

Have you ever thought of a banjo?

I have, and it worries me...

Lubi: No, i havent considred a banjo, although the banjo-kazooie start-up theme is very tempting.

Nova: I was hoping to progress onto "real" guitars. I.e. epiphone is a cheap gibson.
Real gibsons are too pricey, but i want a fender not a squire, etc.

Get a Tokai they have some really nice Gibson type guitars that are much better value than the Epiphone equivalents.

If you would like a really really good fender type guitar, go for a Cort, the spec is brilliant for the price range. Get the Cort G290.
Check out these reviews it is a very nice guitar feature wise for the price: See here.

I've got a mid-low end Ibanez myself (~$520Cdn. when it was new) and while it's not the best guitar ever made, they're actually really good for the money. If you've got a lot of money, you can do a LOT better, but if you're on a budget Ibanez makes some pretty good guitars for the price.
