Attention All Personel, Incomming N00bz

I guess I'm a newb too. :)

I've been on the emuboards for about a year now, joined since I got my zodiac (used another palmos handheld before that).
I was interested in the gp32, but I never got to buy one (especially since craig announced a sequal was in the makings on his site.

When the gp2x was announced, I was interested in it, registered here, etc etc. :)

That Slashdot post comes off a little misleading. It claims the 2X is by Gamepark and not Game Park Holdings, that could lead to confused Newbs. Hope it gets corrected.

The key to getting by in ANY forum community is to notextend yourself forcefully, hop in and go with the flow for a while before you try to make a wave. WHen I got here I simply joined in on conversations that were low impact or just wanted opinions based on easily accessed information, I searched through old threads before asking most questions, listened to friendly advice when offered and never copped an aditude. Anyone who's ever entered a forum for the first time needs to tread lightly their first few weeks it's only logical.

the psp news page on dcemu has already mentioned the gp2x several times as another potential contender in the handeld market etc. etc.

Eh, newest noob here.  I don't take offense to the designation, but do hope that this is a friendly place, since I found out about the gp2x today and instantly placed my pre-order.  Hopefully the trolls will stay away and let us new customers enjoy the forums and the learning process of what this killer gadget can do.

And my guess about all the traffic is that it's coming from your link on today's boingboing.  That's where I found out about it.

Can't wait to get my new toy-

Jason

Never saw that site before. Just looked and saw this:

"Update: Whoops -- according to the official site, this thing is crippled with DRM. So much for buying one of these, ever. "

*sigh*

Can you please tell this Simon person to read my GP2X FAQ about the DRM? Cuz he doesn't seem to understand what it's for and I fear people there will simply believe him that it's "crippled with DRM."

EDIT: I just emailed that site, so maybe they'll do another update later.

Well I'm a newbie and i only found the GPX2 by accident, if you want to know how other people heard about it there is another thread running in the 'GPX2 general discussions forum', only 20 or so, so far

Found the forums to be very friendly places so far and very easy to find info, not sure how that is going to remain for newbies once there are more than 13 pages though, the FAQ was very useful and a good place to start, hope that keeps being updated.

Some patience is going to be needed though, looks like all that some newbs are going to be bringing to the scene is £124 and lots of requests. (me included).

Could you get DaveC to explain why I can't have a N64 emulator again? Only joking but people are going to ask that, it is a machine for emulating after all, it would be more useful to point to a FAQ or a previous thread than to get upset or abusive. It will only get worse when the number of posts increases and more newbies join.

Keep up the good work guys/girls

I have been noticing lately that this forum is being bombarded with n00bz, lots of 'em. Not that it is bad.

Just wondering what is happening. I haven't seen this much new activity here for a LONG time. Is this GP32 or GP2X getting some publicity from somewhere that we don't know of?

So if you are a n00b maybe you could tell us where you heard of the GP32/GP2X?

Kind of curious. Maybe this will give a clue of where to "advertise" the system better.

first, reffer to newbies. Noob is an insult. newbie is a word to say you're just new to something. Noob is the guy that doesn't know something but think he do, or some kids poluating the forums.

And second, the wave of new members is coming from the publicity made by any internet user on the web. 'Hey, look ! check this system!' and then the guy want to know more about it, search on google and find his way here.

You need to inform those people, 'cause later they could support the community and GPH at the same time. It's our future.

and i must add that a newbie for something doesn't mean a newbie for everything.

Reminds me of the time the GP was launched in Europe. I started a let's be nice to the newbs thread and this classic from rico was one of the lighthearted replies.

LOL or 'the PSX only has a 32 MHz processor, the GP32 has 133 MHz, ZOMG the GP32 shuld emulated 4 playstations!!'

*BEEP*

Oh shit, they're coming. Brace yourselves. BaDToaD and moz defend the left entryway. I'll hold them off from the right --

Sure the GP32 can emulate N64 games! Why here's a link to a site that shows the GP32 plaiying Gamecube games, even!

Ha ha. Those clearly legitimate photos make me giggle. Makes me want to pull my Atari back out- who knew it was so powerful!?

Noobz eh?
Aw well, you were a Noob at one point, and we're all noobs in the eyes of Cragix =)

But, I remember seeing the GP32, on Gamefaqs, 'while back, and was rather interested, I even considered buying on, but held off for a DS.

Then I was strolling through message boards on Gamefaqs, and I saw the GPX2 board again, and decided to see how it was going, and I saw everything was going better than it was, a year ago.
Then I was about to buy a GP32, and everyone told me to wait a couple of months for the GP2X.
I did, and I am about to pre-order, and pay it all off at once.

To get people to notice go to Gamefaqs.com
And go to the Jizzmondo...Oops, I mean Gizmondo, and DS, and PSP, and even the N-Gage. And tell people what all the GP2X can do, and what all it's capible of.

G'day.

No, please no!

Don't bring Gamefaqs people here!

Most of them seem to be underaged. All they do is argue and go off on fan boy tantrums. I ran out of there screaming in horror last time I looked at their boards.

Am I an under-aged, Fanboy arguing...Whatever?
Probably not, but most from gamefags are, hence the fear.

There are a few (not all) people that are reasonable on GFaqs but a very large percentage have helped to general the belief that gamefaqs represents a perfect example of the people that should go first in a homocidal killing spree.

I used to go their quite frequently myself but I realized all I was doing was sitting in rooms with people DETERMINED to have system war arguments and argue about crap that has very little to do with anything more than their need to feel superior over another person. When one day I had a problem with my log in do to a server hiccup I took it as my sign to never go back.
