Xgp Homepage Open

There is a nice comparison chart between GPX2 and XGP in GPZigi so it would be great if someone translate it but wait a minute I think that I will firstly go for XGP because I don't like the way GPX2 is advertised. In Yahoo!News there was an article about GPX2 in which they say this is an incredible multimedia player which is ironically and pointlessly called Gamepark and it won't be long until an american manufacturer will buy it and produce under their own name. This article is really getting on my nerves

EDIT: By the time I was writing this the comparison chart was translated.

Maybe the XGP uses the new PowerVR SGX chip?
It supports OpenGL ES AND SHADERS -> support for MPEG 4 decoding and enhancing.

Well, I see a few problems with the XGP:

1. Widescreen: Good for movies, not good for emulators.
2. 3D with the 200 MHz ARM: Too slow for PSX od N64 emulators.
3. Only 200 MHz ARM: Not much faster than the GP32...
4. It comes a few months later than the gpx2

I know, it might be cool for 3D homebrew games - and I'd rather see lots of good homebrew games, but the masses want emulators...

As far as I understood dual core 200MHz ARM. Here is a link to an English article about the new Reigncom handheld. It looks great! www.pspfanclub.com/?item=reigncom-iriver-wants-to-spank-psp-s-behind

That is one ugly looking handheld, I hope they change the design.

is DDR really needed in a handheld. especcially for homebrew.. also its almost sure that the gpx2 will have 64MB too, the specs are not updated yet, but you can read it in the FAQ Section.

The picture of the Iriver is just their $400-$500 PMP with a video game picture superimposed on the screen, it's not the actual device.

Still even though now that I know who reigncom is I still couldn't care less as they're going to be brand new to the gamming biz which usually means they'll hve a rough start and they're only looking to convert online games which means either Sports games or FPS and I don't play either. Besides from the sound of things their system wont be ready for another year or more since WiBro inferstructure isnt planned to start going up untill 2006 and that's likely just in korea for now.

EvilDragon, The way I see it masses clammor for emulators because they give access to hundreds of professional quality games that were already well loved. if original homebrew could manage the same level of quality more often people would make more noise about that. Don't get me wrong I love to see original games on the GP32 but there are huge gaps between their arrivals and they arn't always very polished or dont always get completed so some people have dificulty waiting for them.

I'm not too sure this XGP is even real.

Looks like they are just trying to disrupt the gpx2's sales

EDIT: - is there a price and a release date?

about wifi.. the chip used in the gpx2 has wifi capabilities so perhaps there is hope for wifi after all

someone at gpzigi website speaks of GPX2 having AC97 for it's sound.

Not quite sure of his legitimacy but he says he's got that from a trustworthy source.

Q. Online game? Elaborate.
A. Games like Kart Rider (popular korean on-line racing game) and such, we want people to be able to play them on the go, wirelessly, on places like public transit. We want the users to be able to play those games on the same server as PC users do.

Well, if the xgp can play games like Gunbound or Runescape, then it sounds pretty good (please dont flame me :( )

Also, this looks kinda like a rivalry between gpx2 and xgp, i hope GP32x doesnt split up like gamepark did :( .

That Q & A is intended for Reigncom's new handheld console that's supposed to come out next year.

Has nothing to do with Gamepark or Holdings, unfortunately. :(

Considering GP have confirmed that the GPX2 uses the MMSP2 processor, and the MMSP2 has built in AC97 audio, I wouldn't be suprised :)

There is something strange going on. Firstly I wonder if polooo2 could translate what the two links in the bottom of the XGP site are intended for. When I click the first one a big map appears with a big GP32 sign on the top and the second one is probably e-mail newsletter subscription or pre-order or an invitation to the off-line design choosing in Korea. I wonder why Craig and Evil Dragon are so sceptical about XGP. It has better specs than GPX2, better commercial support than GPX2 for sure (I don't say nice commercial support) and it is made by the guys which manufactured GP32 NLU and FLU then split up from the other part Gamepark Holdings because they probably thought it was useless to make 3 redesigns of one and the same thing plus GP32FLU is very identical to the GP32 BLU. FLU can be played better in sunlight with the lights tuirned off but BLU has brighter display but these are minor differences. Gamepark Inc. has even kept the good old Gamepark logo.

They are A/S (After Service) related, for repairs or inquiries.

Top one is for directions and service information,

bottom one is for service application.

G and GH split up for their differences in the way they see their next-gen GP32.

G saw that more power and more commercial support would bring success,

GH saw that concentrating homebrew and giving what the customers want would be successful.

Craigx is selling the gpX2  ...

and the XGP is AFAIK a closed system and therefore not as of much interest to the GP32X community, which revolves around devvers and homebrew. (and therefore of less interest to EvilDragon)

;)

But GP32 BLU and its European release were made by GPH after they split up.

I can see a huge mess here. Some HB devs will go for the GPx2 others will be enchanted by the XGP and move to that. This will leave an already small community fractured and even smaller. Say for example Reesy ports DrMD to the GPx2 but Skeezix ports CaSTaway to the XGP. NoSKill would go to the XGp and port quake because of the 3D hardware, while Craig will port Doom to the GPx2 because he will sell that one. Now you would need to buy TWO systems to get all of the emus? If the XGP becomes more popular than we will have to deal with that smaller than PSP widescreen and the stretched out graphics that result. This really sucks, it is turning into a real mess.

There's a lot of 'ifs' there, Dave. Why not wait and see what happens before you start with this doomsayer business again? I mean, we don't even know if the XGP is open source or not...

XGP seems very pointless to me. It's like a PSP but without software support.

The GPX2 is the real successor to the GP32, the XGP seems to be something else entirely (especially if it's not open source).

Really again, A split in the comunity of a few devs. Thats just scaremongering. The state of play is the same as its always been. People who develop for themselves do so for fun. If they want to develop for a kettle let 'em. People develop for the GBA/PSP/DS/zodiac/Nokia/Hell telephones/Pocket PC's hell and others, and soon iriver is throwing its hat into the ring. Great! Compertition from manufactures is the best. Hell if they are relying on attracting independent developers. Thats even better because developers will be accomodated so much more, and the hardware has to be more open. Hell people can choose the device that suits them the most. I'm not ungrateful to the people who have put time and effort into creating things. I just would rather them do what they want most for them.

I do believe though that in reality gpx2 has done something special by choosing linux, already they have thousands of indendant developers, that have many programs already, and programs for similar media devices like the Archos PMA/Zarus. Will emulators run out of the box, oh yes. Gamepark Holdings have put there money on it.

Running around like a headless chicken repeating the mantra 3D widescreen 2D 3:4 just a bit stupid esp as what you suggest is really quite sensible. That people who want to develop for 3D do just that on a device that supports it, and those who want to develop 2D emulators and 2D games develop for the other one, and hell people will be attracted by what each device can do, I'm more interested im my choice by what I can do with the device, but then I'd always choose 1000 programs over a few everyday.
