I bet it comes out he was an innocent.

Would be just our luck.
Our luck? What the hell are you talking about our luck?

Well if they were wrong, it would make britains police look bad, although they had all right to challenge him as they should do, and, as heran away, they had been told to shoot to kill.

Yeah I mean, how crazy those police officers are to shoot to kill a man who is resisting them after a major terrorist threat. The guy deserves what he got for being a total moron.

yeah i know, but other peoples opinions differ from ours, and perhaps people who dont hnow the full story.

i think they had to shoot him, that is what they had been told to do, and if he was innocent, then he was a jackass for acting like he did.

I think the first wave had more to do with the G8 than Iraq.

No Idea what the second one's about, really.

Same as the first to maim and kill.... apparantly the british publc deserve this according to radical clerics as we re-elected blair

Just caught some breaking nrews armed police have just shot dead a suspect on stockwell tube this morning...

Yeah sounded quite brutal as well. They chased him through the subway, he tripped and fell into the doorway of a train, they then pinned him down and then shot him.....good on them I say, it's about time we started seeing actions like this, a few more seconds and he could have killed a lot of people.
Shoot first and ask questions later, is that really the kind of country you want to live in? Then again, with a fucked up attitude like yours you're probably already a copper . My Grandad fought for this country so we wouldn't have to live in a facist police state. Looks like he wasted his time :(.

The guy was described as running away from the police with wires sticking out of him towards a train.

He disobeyed direct orders from the police after being yelled at several times.

So I reckon the police shooting him when he did was a good thing because he could have caused ALOT of damage to people and families in more ways than one.

What would you prefer, him to blow himself up and then have the police make a statement saying:

"the british public have not to worry, those killed would be happy to see we have justice as we have just taken the culprits left leg into custody???"

At what point was I being a facist?

Your grandad may have shot a nazi in the face to stop him killing innocents, how is this any different?

Edit: Only just after writing this have I read the article on the guy being innocent, but nevertheless his behaviour obviously stirred up enough suspicion to make him appear a threat. I can't deny race may have something to do with the officers decision, but I would appreciate it if you would not link my comments with racism, you have insulted me pretty heavily. I was unaware of the persons race and religion from the very beginning and it never even entered my head when i was discussing my preferred action towards people who acted like he did in such dramatic times.

I didn't mention anything about racism, I mentioned fascism and execution without trial. And as for needing to shoot the guy before he hurt anyone, if someone did kill many people and they were arrested they would go to prison for many years, but they would not be killed as we no longer have the death penalty in the UK. So are you saying that it's ok to have the death penalty for people who may be thinking about murdering, and it's ok for someone other than a judge to make that decision?

(I should point out that I don't usually get involved in discussions like this because I understand that people are entitled to their own opinions and it's not really fair to force your views on someone else, but I've recently become a father and I'm starting to get very scared about the kind of world my son is going to be growing up in)

with all these things you can't think objectively.

there are no universal rules, of course people shouldn't be killed for planning murder, but we need to look at the situation that the police found themselves in.

as i stated as soon as the story about the shooting hit the news, running from the police was akin to authorising your own death. why didn't he just listen to the police?

woogal - spray quite clearly has the best answer here. No I don't believe that there should be a death penalty for potential killers nor do I believe that there should be a shoot first ask questions later policy, but this isn't UK law against UK citizens anymore, it's terrorism and it rests under an entirely different light.

I seldom get into these kinds of arguments either because nobody wins, everyone has a different opinion, but as far as you worrying about what kind of world your kids grow up in, I think you should be a little more relieved its in one where police officers make intelligent decisions to protect those who have responded sensibly to a situation by neutralising those who have caused panic and fear, it is unfortunate that he was ultimately innocent but his behaviour obvioulsy warranted enough concern for a trigger pulled.

If I were the officer and I had hesitated to fire, only to watch the guy step on the train and blow himself up killing up to 50 people I couldn't live with myself, when you think of it this way its easier to understand why they did it, and although this sounds like the killing was for PERSONAL peace of mind, well we are only human in the end.

The only main problem I see with this and I'm sure you've thought the same, is now we're probably going to see a lot of dead people who are completely innocent because the police have gone all jumpy and trigger happy, well there's nothing we can do about that as it comes down to the individuals with the guns.

I'm going to stop the argument here because I'm not very good at phrasing myself and tend to get people's backs up just because I haven't explained my point correctly, just please don't make me out as the bad guy - I feel safer knowing potential terrorists are eliminated and you feel safer with trialed justice, perhaps when I have kids I'll change my mind entirely.

Police shooting somebody is instant manslaughter charge. There will not be a culture of trigger happy police, that is bullshit. I honestly don't see the big problem here. What were the police supposed to do? Let him run off when he is acting highly suspicious A DAY after a major attack?

He was a Brazilian, who maybe didn't understand English, up against plain-clothed police officers. If a bunch of 4 or 5 random men in jeans starting shouting at me in a foreign language, I'd run.
