Well, its all done. Music, graphics, text, choices and about 90% bug testing. The entire Warlock Of Firetop Mountain gamebook all coded into a trusty GP32 in almost exactly a month. I have to be honest, I think its come out really well, and I'm dead chuffed. I'm going to release it for the GBAX competition, and according to their rules, it can't be released to the general public beforehand, so I'll have to hold off till the end of May.

But I can use that time to tweak, fiddle and make sure it does all click. Plus I have to enlist my faithful proofreaders (Annalise and Deacon) to play it through and let me know where my fingers have slipped up.

It's easy, for instance, to get your 1's and L's muddled. You get into 1 L of a mess.

Anyway, check the website (http://www.scip.org.uk/ab/pogart/gp32.htm) and familiarise yourself with the epic.

Also, I'm going to extract what forms the basic Fighting Fantasy engine inside the game code and release that for anyone who fancies a go. 1 down, 58 to go.

See ya,

Paul

good job.. can't wait to try it later. Also congratulations on keeping up with working on it. A lot of times people will just release a small DEMO and then give up working on it.. So ya.. Congrats :D

nice one mate, good luck with the next ones (please say you'll do more!!)

btw, how big is the final version?

Hi all,

There'll be more alright! I was thinking of doing a poll to see which one to tackle next. My top three choices would be:

House of Hell
Scorpion Swamp
Trial Of Champions

I would also like to do either Vault of or Return of The Vampire, but getting either for less than £20 on Ebay is unlikely..

e_b - final size is just under 3mb. It would have been more if Aiken hadn't put me on the track for compressing picture files..

Paul

my vote goes to Scorpion Swamp - my fave...forbidden forest was antother good one.

know what you mean about eBay...maybe you can add a readme that asks people that if the have the books they offer you a lend? I certainly would (not that I can - I only have Warlock)

Bought the book for my son after he tried your demo, he prefers your version.

Have you tried your local libraries for other books ?

Hi all,

Thanks for the overwhelming support! I have however just found a pretty serious bug, and I'm not yet sure if its part of VNS. Basically the game crashes (it seems) after a certain amount of random numbers has been generated. Which, for a game dependent on random numbers, is pretty crippling.

I'm sure there's a way round it, but in the meantime I've put a post up for VirtuaLeech (who wrote VNS) to get in touch and suggest ways round it, or why this might be happening. Of course, anyone else who knows their way round VNS can feel free to get in touch as well!

Here's hoping - I've not had a chance to test the whole game in one go before (instead bug-clearing sections as I've programmed them) and hadn't spotted this previously.

Who knows - could just be low batteries..

Paul

Well done on the all the hard graft.

I just hope you can fix the bug - It sounds like a memory leak - but I'm not a programmer. ;)

can you split the game into 2 parts perhaps?

Congratz!
Those are indeed great news!
I can't wait to try it out! As well for others.
I do have 30+ books of that series, but unfortunately they're all in Portuguese.

BTW and I think a lot of people will want to know this, can your engine be adapted to other books in the genre such as AD&D?

And I also think there were other compos going on as we speak, you could try 'em out too ;P

All the best and good luck with the compo, 'till the end of May you still have loads of time to tweak it and make it even better ;)

Cheers

Great JOB!!! I think it's great that some one takes the time to give some
ting fun and valuable to the GP32 community, I will look forward to playing the

I agree if one could write their own based off an engine and make AD&D or Star
Wars and Stargate or whatever come to life would rule beyond al rulingness!!!!
