hi,

i just wanted to know, if somebody knows a review site, where i can look up, which beat'em ups are fully playable with a 3-button pad (->gp32 with DrMD)?

i heard that SF2 champion edition had an option for 3 button pads and you can switch between the button config by pressing start. ok, thats a bid odd, but what can we do?

so are there any pure-3-button-pad beat'em ups for the genesis/megadrive?
and where can i find a resource, which generally shows for all games, which button pad do i need? is there any?

correct me if im wrong but wernt thoes othe 3 buttons just short cuts for lazy  people who couldnt push more than one button at a time  . so if im right u can play the ones that are made with 6 buttons in minde just might take some fancy finger work.

As far as I know there isn't a single MD game which requires a 6 button pad (and won't work with a 3 button one).

So all of them work, its often just a case of redefining the controls.

Iirc, All the 6 button pads did was add fast options to the one`s that were already there:

Eg,

Button 1______Button 2_______Button 3
Nornal kick____Normal Punch____Normal high kick

Button 4______Button 5_______Button 6
Fast kick______Fast punch______Fast high kick

Correct me if i am wrong.

Mortal Kombat series wasnt like that (Or at least MKII.) It used the a and c for low punch and kick respectivly and x and z for high punch and kick. Those games really sucked to play with a three button but it could be done.

There is a Fatal Fury game that works perfectly on DrMD and uses only 3 buttons, also the megadrive port of Virtua Fighter 2 which actually plays pretty good... there are one or two others designed for 3 buttons...

@LOOM:

that can't be, because Mortal Kombat requires a 6 button pad.
you can even prove that by looking at cheat-sites. you can't make every move or combo with a 3 button pad.

so, the game doesn't play *perfectly* at all. you only have a limited access.
exactly because of this reason, i made this thread.

in many threads, there are users who say "the game works perfectly" and in many cases the meaning of "perfectly" is, it doesn't crash after loading.

Kan't remember about MK2, but the Megadrive Mortal Kombat Klassic had the High Punch button mapped to (Bakk + A) or (Towards + A) and it was possible, although utterly kounterintuitive, to get all of the moves out.

Arguably better than the god-awful 'Press Start to swap between Kick and Punch' system that SF2:SCE (and presumably SSF2) used. Ah, the Megadrive 6 button joypad. A thing of rare beauty. Best 2D fighty game pad ever.
