Mame

you dont need to save on mame so thats ok :D (When was the last time you went to the arcades where you could save your game :p hehe)

yup, there will be alot of un needed stuff, But how can it be dangerous for the SMC?? does he mean Take too much space up ?

Im really dont know Steve  I think he just means savestates would damage the SMC.

Hi Fiu,

Is the emulator using the C core? Is it the mame core or charles macdonalds core?

I know his emu is based on Mame 0.34, so i think hes using mame core ( i also read something about 68k core, but im not sure about it) .

About the 166mhz thing... I really dont know anything about it, but i hope he will try to get Mame runing with something lower than 166mhz.
Other things i forgot to say... He is deleting loads of code from Mame 0.34, source code was 15mb and now its 9mb. So hes deleting all the "accesories" ( savestates, screenshots etc... ), why that? Fraxis dont wana damage our SMC, he thinks it would be dangerous.

I wonder what ever happened to the Multipac emu? I remember him saying that he will fix some things and then release the source.

Too bad there isn't a MAME version that was optimized for smaller devices. Older arcade games should be able to run at 133 Mhz with full sound if the code was cleaner.

SMCs can be written a limited amount of times, so saving shortens our cards' lifetime.

This version does NOT emulate modern arcades, like System16, CPS1, CPS2, etc. That is not only because of the rom sizes, but 'cos of the slow speed also.

For modern arcades the only solution are monoemulators, just like the multipac; but there will be necesary asm cores, and I doubt Franxis has the time to code 'em...

not to be an asshole but that pic of a GP32 running arcade tetris looks EXTREMELY photoshopped to me (take it from a guy who stares at photoshop for too many hours each day)

i am not calling anyone a liar, hoax, etc. Just saying that it leapt out at me.. have a look and decide for yourselves.

anyway, other than that, GPMame is one of my most wanted projects for GP32 - more than anything else at this point, perhaps. I remember seeing screens almost 2 yrs ago now (!!!!) so I really am not ever getting my hopes up to see anything anytime, soon, in general. But it's always interesting to hear news and developments. Hopefully something will be released sooner or later.

BTW a Mame port has been in relatively heavy development over at the Z camp recently, has anyone of you owners had a look at it yet? I stopped watching the threads after a couple of days, and it's been about a month since then.. that would be interesting to examine as well...!

Yes you are xD
I saw the thing with my own eyes and it's as real as me and you. Take a look and this and think again:

Pretty good to be PS, uh? :)

And btw, who needs to use PS to have something in the screen? It's much easier to use one image viewer with a bmp...

Yep, you are..... Its a real image.

While I am not suggesting that this is bogus, and I actually do believe it is real it would still be REAL easy to fake.

All you would have to do is take a snapshot in PC MAME, trim it to 320 x 240 and then display it in any of the GP32 image viewers on the actual GP32, and take a picture of the GP32 displaying the PC image. Since you can't see it move you would never know.

Actually, you can see it move. Just look at the red piece, there is a motion blur effect produced by the tft refresh and a slow digital camera... Ok, you can modify an image to show that effect, but It will be much work to just a simple tetris fake...

Well ok, but re-read my post again. I am not suggesting this particular emu or the screens are fake.

I am just stating that it would be real easy to do if you wanted to, and that a picture of a game running on a GP32 could be easily faked.

I opened it in photoshop! and zoomed right in

no its not fake - theres a reflection of the screen on the grey bit of the GP casing that matches the top of the tetris arch thing! - you cant fake that - its the backlight reflecting!

also - thers no cut lines, photoshop makes sharp lines (unless your a real pro) and when you get close up you can tell they dont match the rest of the image...

and the screen has dust all over it - you cant fake that! - if it were a pc screen shot it would be perfect!

Space

you can still fake all of that....you simply show a screenshot of mame on GP32 image viewer so it is actually on the screen :p

But I believe this emu is real and can't wait to try it out!!!

Well silly me for hoping it would be a thread about the progress of MAME ports, but as per usual it just turns into a stupid slanging match about faked screenshots...

...and people wonder why this isn't a friendly community anymore...

It's NOT a fake. A friend of me has tested it and told me that Tetris was at 90% speed and Ghosts'n Goblins at 80% more or less.

Maybe on 5th March you will get something to try ;)

Bye

apologies - it was meant as a joke :D

the fact that were debating screen shots just shows how far this mAME emu is progressing!

one month to go before we get a release!

:D
