I've always been a fan of Castaway, but thought it looked a little dark and washed out courtesy of the ST's colour palette.

Well let me say this Castaway fans - it looks *fantastic* on a BLU! Crystal clear, fantastic contrast, great colours.

If you love Castaway, you know what you have to do...

how does supercars 1 and 2 look?
looks too dark on my flu and raising the brightness doesnt help :(
most games look ok but some are darker than others, is this the same with the blu?

Castaway looks awesome on the BLU. Clear and bright and you can see all of the subtle deep shading that was missing before. Go for the BLU.

Supercars 2 looked way too dark on a FLU, and guess what...it looks great on a BLU! Admittedly a little darker than some of the others, but far better and the game becomes extremely playable on a BLU.

By the way, I went back to my FLU after several hours on my BLU - need I say I found it extremely difficult - it really is a remarkable difference.

We should get a BLU fund going for skeezix if he doesn't have a BLU already ;)
I read Skeezix posts on Zodiac gamer and it seems he is infatuated with Zodiac right now and Palm stuff is his living. I remember him saying that he doesn't like the way that the GP32 looks and it is to big and that he doesn't use it much anymore. Anytime someone has a GP32 vs Z post he always goes on about how much better the Z is. So not sure if giving him a BLU would do much good as far as getting an update of Castaway :( Maybe cash would work? Maybe he could charge for a new version? I guess you would have to ask him what it would take, and if he would be interested. ST w/cyclone would be perfect speed on the stuff that was not effected with the cyclone bugs.

I guess you could ask him though, he will tell you one way or another I am sure he seems to be a nice guy. I would donate if he would agree to do it :)

I've got a FLU (no BLU); sold my straight GP32.. gotta have some form of lighting :)

I do carry the zodiac, as I'm a PDA nerd and always havew a PDA on me (I keep all my info in one); until recently I carried a PalmOne T|T3 as my PDA (And befor that, abotu 10 other devices.. I've been through most PDAs around, since the inception by Apple back in the day), and left both GP32 and Zodiac at home when on the move (I'm *very mobile* -- the ability to move is vitaly important) .. carry extra stuff no good. IF it doesn't go in pocket, I have no use for it most of the time. So one pda, one cell phone, one keys, one changepurse with cash in it. No space for a wallet even :)

GP32 is certainly too ig to fit in pocket, so it always stays at home to fiddle with there. (Especially with the mini keyboard attached). Since I work a lot (15+ hours a day, every day) I decided I might try and play some more games, so moved from t|T3 to Zodiac.. GP32 is not a PDA, and doens't fit in pocket, so cannot be used that way. So I'm carrying a Zodiac around right now as my PDA. I Still don't have time to game, but at least I have the option now.. so for me, its pure necessity. ie: Must have PDA, must be Palm OS for testing sake, and must fit in pocket. I keep a *lot* of stuff in PDAs, and since I develop PDA software, its a no brainer.. unless I want to carry gP32 around in my hand all the time, which means I'd lose it :) (ie: I'm on the move, evbery day, all day long.. client ot client, etc). So GP32 simply annot be carried with me, and so it gets left by the wayside, purely by necessity.

Due to my wokring hours, I'm not like normal folks :/ I don't sit at home playing games,or game on the bus etc. (Wish I had time for it.. but those scraps of free time I do get, I code anyway on my public projects.. to me, I think, coding is the game, though I pine over gamign itself, I Think deep down inside, I just lke to build the games ;)

I have no real preference either way.. GP32 *should* be smaller and non-white (like black, say) so that its easier to carry, and can be used in a office environment; being all white guarantees you can't bring it out anywhere work-like ;) ie: Same way original GBAs were.. looks toy. At least now theres osme better colours. You have ot admit, the GP32 is pretty damne dugloy, though at leats it has a big sexy screen on it, and the BLU should make it usable. (ORiginal GP32 screen was totally worthless .. couldn't see it past 6pm here :)

I *do NOT* bash GP32 and anyone who suggest sotherwise needs a slap; I'm pretty much the only sensible bastard around here I think .. I defend the GP32 on zodiac boards, and I defend the Zodiac on GP32 boards and I'm totally sick of the childish flaming that goes on between the two :/ Right now I'm pretty turned off by a lot of people in a lot of ways :/ Two or more groups will always flam eeach other, but the Zod and GP32 are the two that *shoudwork together* for once .. two underdogs, in a bvig dog world, should be proud of and supportive of, each other.

Anyway, my active work right now is on BOTH GP32 and Zodiac if you've been paying attention ;) You may remember I spent significant amount of time building a cross platform system.. Zot. The Zot core is a dev system I can use to biuld apps for all the main platforms (win, mac, unix, gp32, palm os, symbian and pocket pc) all at once. I didn't do that just for a lark ;) The zot game engine is the sugar on top of it, with Zotscript etc.

I'm looking into revamping Zot some more and produce a game with it, for gp32 and zodiac and palm os.

I've got a GP32 MIDI player being worked on for Zot as well, so likely will spit out a GP32 MIDI (.mid) file player..

Zodiac is better in a lot of ways, but GP32 is also better in a lot of ways; there is no way Linux can be made to work on Palm OS devices without a hardware mod, for instance. Zodiac fits in pocket and has a touchscreen, and thus is a PDA. Thats it for me.. must haves. But GP32 has ASR and Tomak which is a big win for me, and of course the homebrew is what keeps the GP32 going, and is what leads the pack -- you may notice that GBA homebrew is all but dead in a lot of ways (same devs doing it, or less.. but not a lot of new blood). Palm OS is alive as ever (huuuuge, more than any other platform) but mostly non-game oriented due to being PDAs. Zodiac homebrew is only just now starting to grow. You just dont' see the sort of fun going on anywhere in homebrew as on GP32.

I still crack my GP32 open every few days :) Have to keep up with the new homebrew that pops out every few days :)

Anyway, gods, it just annoys me this fued.. I'm tempted to start keeping a list of people who flame GP32 or Zodiac, and put them on a list of peopel I don't reply to, or make software for, etc :p But then of course, they'd be proud of being on my annjoyed-list, so would just encourage them.

Aside from all of that.. CaSTaway.

CaSTaway could in theory take advantage of Cyclone; since I'm so busy with work, I'm holdin goff until its super solid, but its getting there. It'd be some doing to hook it up, but it shoudl work pretty damned well. (and for those keeping notes, it'd be easier to do on GP32 for a few reasons. See how impartial I am?)

My next update for GP32 will likely be the new Zot stuff, if I get time to finish it up; I've mentioned in zot-maker mailing list the changes coming up, and it'll be some work, but if I can get it to whereI want, it shoudl be frighteningly useful.

Feel free to refer people to that post, too, since it covers lots of group. I still read gp32x every day, but I don't reply as much (or to ZG or other boards.. too burnt out right now ;)

I think I have a new policy.

I will reply to GP32 and Zodiac flames, using something to this effect only:

Standard Reply to Flaming Asswads: v1.01
------------------------------------------
You've chosen to flame _______ (insert GP32 or Zodiac at your leisure) or compare ______ (GP32 or Zodiac) to _______ (GP32 or Zodiac), and by doing so have demonstrated the fact you haven't got the information or clue enough in order to use either effectively. Both devices are underdogs waging a great war to open up the gaming market to new things and homebrew, and you should learn to appreciate what you have before trying to knock down something you know very little about. Flaming either device only aggravates everyone involved and makes people less interested in you -- instead, be a leader and builder.. construct new and greater things.. or shut the hell up.

hehe, I approve! we need more peacekeepers around here..

damn I would love to buy a BLU just for CaSTaway, the darkness is the major drawback that puts me off it

As for GPvZ, it's nice to see the bridging of the divide in the form of ZOT - hopefully this will take off and both communities will be able to produce games that are compatible with both, and that would surely help bring people together, way to go skeezix

Skeezix -

I am sorry if my post sounded like a Zodiac flame. It really wasn't intended that way, but after reading again I admit it does sound a bit "flamey".

I probably read the post when you were defending the Zodiac against a GP32 flamer and got the wrong impression.

Anyway, sorry if I made you type that long post  I admit I do get cought up in a flame war now and then ;) Sorry.

My apologies,
Dave

No sweat Dave -- it was just an "in general rant" -- seeing that stuff every day is a real drag and so I get set off after wading through a bunch of that stuff 5 mins before I saw that post :)

/me is too stressed out ;)

Skeezix-

Seeing as you said in your post that you really need a lit unit, I would reccommend the BLU to you then. It really is much nicer as far as color saturation and contrast than a FLU. I had a FLU and the washed out colors bothered me (i am picky). Since you are used to backlit screens like those on the Zodiac and Palms, the BLU would fit in to your needs better. I like the GP32 much more than I did with a FLU or non lit unit. It is not as bright as the Z but it is adequate. I am sure they did that for battery life. Money... yes I know, that is aways the problem :( Maybe if someone bought your FLU or something you could do it :)

BLUs now $179 at Lik Sang. That is cheap, I wish I would have known.

Peace
