Urm, thought i'd be the voice of dissent here (for a change)

although i'm talking about the board as a whole, this stuff all really seems to be stemming from generalmx.

whats with the new authoritarian rule?

maybe i've only just noticed, but board rules have now popped up next to the homepage link. suddenly theres stickies of rules on every board. the amount of topics that are being moved (again most all by generalmx) has increased madly. The main issue i take with this is that the board now look plain scruffy!

the basis of your new rule seems to be an end to flaming, why would that be exactly? OK, so we're the at the forefront of the gp32 community, doesn't mean we should put up with, how to put it, wankers!
I agree that if stuff is posted in the help zone it should be considered flamus imunus, but when people are posting bulloxs in the general talk it should be considered a free for all.

I think its naive to say that the majority of the board go around flaming newbies, the majority of the board flame trolls and other suchs bacteria, why should these people not get a flame.

I notice that flamers will be repremanded for their actions, do you know what will make the biggest difference? Banning the very people who create the need for flames!

How about attacking the issue from the other side. I for one do get sick of the amount of "Help me put some games on my gp32" topics that appear in general talk. Why not stop repremanding the people who get a little tecthy as they tell someone to read the FAQ or search for the 10th time today, and warn the idiots who don't post in the right forums?

Basically, i just feel your alienating the people who keep the board alive. Yes, newbies are needed to keep the scene fresh, but if your going to start punishing those who have been quite happily using the boards for years in an attempt to create a sterile, opionless, dull atmosphere then your going to lose the very core of who make up the boards.

In conclusion, i guess im trying to say, chill out a little man. Maybe a rethink of the punishment system is required? Prevention is better than cure as people like to say, prevent the need for flames and annoyance and general ill feeling, and the need for such iron fisted rule will slip away.

Peace Out.

Why?

They aren't to strict at all. They aren't even really new, we are just putting them in places so more ppls will see them. Oh, and the whole Xtreme team agreed on it, so it's not just GeneralNMX :)

Because this board is going further down the lane towards unreadibility (too much newbie noise instead of interesting discussions) and away from advanced users who certainly don't want to play nanny for kids who don't want to look into stickies for the rest of their lifes. Even though spray gets a little too far, his post has some truth in it. If some regular user who helped a lot is too pissed because the 128. newbie asks the same question today and starts ranting, you want to punish him? Good luck with gp32x forums' future then. You'll probably end with a newbie-only board some day.
Ah, and by the way, I honestly think that the dev boards don't need these rules, the dev boards are *very* relaxed and there's very little off-topic going on.

Agree. Everyday, there are n00bs who dont read the FAQ or dont use the searchfunction. Its just f*ckin' irritating...

thats why i think there should be a n00b section. coz i for 1 wouldnt mind answering n00b qs like " how come the gba emulator is so slow" and other q's like that.
That n00b section will do as great as the FAQ and searchfunction i think...

Good, i'm not the only one thinking it!

I agree with don, the amount of censorship and somewhat arcane rules are going to drive away longer term users

theres not much point hanging round if either, its all newbies and people politely answering how to make GPCinema avis for the 12th time today, or an environment where every post is moved into a different category or just censored until it says gp32!

ok, i'm getting a little far fetched, the above was a joke!

but seriously, this community is a good one because its active, don't lets kill it!

And to think I never looked at any of generalmx posts, I thought he was some new commer spamming the boards for no reason - I even stopped reading the post headers when I saw he posted them

I for one didn't mind the boards to much before, yes a bit to much of this or that but a section for new commers would be better then running the boards like a nazi concetration camp

dude, it was just part of a discussion on windows, your own post contradicted yourself enough times, not really relevant to this though is it.
Contradictions? Where?
I dont hate windows, but I don't really like it either.

Microsoft still suck as a company, and I would love to see them crash and burn.

seems pretty non-consistant to me. you don't like the os, want linux to be able to absorb it, don't like microsoft, want the the eu to rule against them, want them to fail, at the same time they're pretty ok.

also, if i cared, i would have carried on this discussion in the actual thread, are you that desperate for attention?

New Board-Rules? I think there just the same as they ever were. The only difference is the new innovative Ban-System with warnings and suspensions. But I don't think this threatens people from posting silly stuff ... ;)

Never said I didn't like the OS, as I stated TWICE

Never said I liked Microsoft, as I said THREE TIMES

I wanted the EU to rule against them. I didn't want the EU to fail, I have no idea where you got that from. Where did I say they're pretty OK? Windows, the product, and Microsoft, the company, are different. The Nazi commissioned the Volkswagon was a great car, the air cooled design is a novel idea. Just because it was commissioned by a party that slaughtered millions of people doesn't stop me from admiring the product.

Oh, and I do rather like the attention, but thats beside the point. You're obviously a moron, yet you're telling me and everyone else to do things, to follow your rules. That shouldn't happen, thus, I'm making your stupidity more obvious to the public eye.

EDIT: Got my car companies mixed up! PROTIP: BMW did work for the nazis during the war though.
