Save The Gp32

The GP32 Euro-release is not targetted at cool die-hard gamers like us.
Most profit should be made of stupid kids wanting the popular thing.

But NO one knows what a GP32 is, if I show my gp32_console to someone they'll say: "Hey, you got a GBA"
I'm pissed, cause it isn't a GBA its a GP32. A GP32 is better, I think.

So f*ck GBA and stuff the people with the name GP32.

Most people that I'm talking about aren't even on the internet, but if they are they should know that is exist.

Thats why placing GP32 on everything you know isn't THAT stupid as you say it is.
You're just saying that its regular spam you get in you inbox.
But if you mention GP32 as often as you can, then you'll reach my goal ;)

Regular spamming isn't

You're an idiot.

You start off with a fairly valid point, but then go onto say that we should spam various message boards and behave like prepubescent red necks with phrases like

GbA SuCkZzzz!

and now that your getting rightfully slammed your retreating with your tail between your legs and saying spam is bad.

I know, and i think many others would share this view, that i wouldn't want the type of people who are impressed by your idea of marketing to be frequenting this scene, we get enough morons as is, we don't need more!

Ok, I know I don't like getting insurance spam, so what about the people who are looking for insurance in there spam, though? They'll buy a gp32 think there insured start a movie and go out driving, well I guess it'll be alright unless the gp32 isn't insurance ;P

I just returned from a two hour study of Kantsian philosophy, I thank you kindly for this nice intermezzo :D

A little too harsh, dont ya think? Sure its a pretty silly, but hes just trying to help out the community. I am with the others though- spam, in any form, is never a positive thing. I would just think that these gp32ers are desperate if I surfed those forums...

I think a better way of putting it is: "informing other people about GP32".

If your going to go to the effort of joining loads of forums then Why not say "Hi, has anyone heard of the GP32?" backed up with some more information about it in their off-topic forum instead of just "GP32".

I know, I don't know you after all and of course I don't want to judge other people and their actions but..... this one is one of the most senseless I ever heard.

This is definitely nothing more than spam and you can not convice people just by posting the letters "GP32" in different boards. If you really want to push the GP32, do something reasonable like...
  • Talk to hobby programmers and tell them about the GP32 specs and it's nice scene
  • Promote the GP32 in other scenes (like I do in the demo scene on demo parties)
  • Beg big developers for GP32 support, start petitions etc.
  • Talk to local media if they are interested in reporting about the GP32 (and this means NOT to send them a single email but call their office, talk to their chief-in-editor and offer them a GP32 unit for a few month etc.)
  • etc. pp.
You'll find out much more by yourself what you can reach... instead of spamming and abuse people.

I think you are right
Im thinking about sending a mail to Joystick (a mag :p at least available in France) to tell tham about the GP32...
they are always talking about little new thing like lopy or so....so GP32 should e interresting for them ;)
Iwill keep everyone informed about that

see you

Both thumbs up! Those actions will make a change, like it happend with FM4, the Austrian radio station or GIGA, the German videogame TV station, which both reported about the GP32 after they got information and a GP32 unit by some fans.

an important thing to remember, when trying to get the GP32 some exposure through the "mainstream" media... well, it has made some pretty high-profile rounds already (otherwise, face it - most of us on this board wouldn't even actually know about it!). But in most cases, the reputable publications/reports etc (ign, egm, and so on) can't really do much to play up the real meat of the system, specifically the whol emulation aspect. Emulation has always been a grey area, something that's cool ot talk about and chat about and appreciate as a hobby, but when it comes down to it it's still a picky subject, one that people are pretty hesitant to talk about in print as they could get in some trouble. There's probably still a bit of feeling like "the legal dam could burst," if you know what I mean. Further, a lot of companies have been exploiting the Classic Games fad lately (look at all the Nintendo rereleases!) so it's absolutely a matter of not stepping on toes!

I remember seeing GP32 mentioned in ign and egm, awhile ago. I n each case, you could note that there was some obvious enthusiasm, but they could only show maybe a screen grab of some classic game running, or hint at it "we don't condone this sort of thing, but the system is probably qute capable of running homebrew emulators, and there's a burgeoning development community for it..." Of course anyone truly in the know can get a cue from that and do a little research, and viola.

Same case with the Zodiac, btw...

I pretty much agree except for the "beg big developers" part. When you do this they will just laugh you off as some whiny little twit. Petitions are worthless, and they can be faked. Big developers will only do things for huge companies like Sony or Nintendo period, full stop. When the GP32 sells 20 million then you have something to talk to them about, until then don't even bother.

As for spamming, no, not a good idea. You can do some limited awareness of it without being annoying, but only where appropriate. For example if you are in an Xbox emulation site and are talking about TG- 16 emulation you can put something in there like "It is a great game and I play this game on my GP32 when I am on the road as well" or something like that. If someone asks about what a GP32 is you can tell them, If everyone ignores that in your post just forget about it, and don't keep bringing it up.

Well... okay, I don't mean "big" companies like Acclaim, EA, or whatever, just "bigger" than the companies which are developing for the GP32 right now.

And about the petitions... I thought the same way you did some years ago but after Border Down and Shikigami no Shiro 2 were released for the Dreamcast in Japan because of petitions, I realized that petition can change something... sometimes... somewhere. But we still have to mind that Japanese developer are closer connected to their consumers than the Europeans.

Anyway, Sega released Puyo Puyo Fever (a.k.a. "Puyo Pop Fever") for Arcade, GBA, PS2, GC, Xbox and even the Dreamcast, a Windows and Mac OS X (!!) version will follow very soon as well as PSP and PDA port. Why aren't we trying to convice Sega to do a GP32 port (plus I personally would love to see a Linux port)? It smells like Sega want to bring it to everyone and every single system out there.

Because all of those systems that you mentioned have sold millions (or will in the case of PSP) of units of hardware, and are available worldwide. It is all about $money$, they do it to make a profit, not to make friends.

Big companies will not make games for a small struggling Korean handheld that most people have not ever heard of. It is just reality.

it is still possible to ask them about that
OK I already that a game dev is all about money but maybe sega is just better than classical company...
That will cost nothing to ask them for porting it and if they are talking about a PDA port (a lot of PDA are using ARM cpu) then it wont be too hard
dont misunderstand me...I know it is $$

see you

Sega became yet another company which is greedy for money... no doubt. But in the case of Puyo Puyo Fever... why are they releasing it for so many different platforms? Even Mac OS X, PDAs and Dreamcast? If they wanted to make only the big bucks it would suffice to release a PS2 and Windows version only and drop the Dreamcast (Japan only release), Xbox (which still sells worse than the old PSone in Japan) and other platforms. I bet we have the best chances to ask for a GP32 version with this game.

hi all
here is what I wrote (but not sent)
Merci d'avance
Florent
