Back in 1999 a dutch company released a "new and improved <_< " C64. It was basically a web-tv thingy running DOS 7.0+Windows 3.1+C64 emulator. It flopped terribly (what else did you expect) and not much of them wear sold.

But now some dutch company has found a few in a warehouse somewhere and is selling them on eBay for 39 euros each. If you already have most other consoles and are looking for a cheap addition to you collection this is it.

Although this sounds like a commercial it's not me selling them ;)

WTF was the logic behind this? Surely in 1999, C64 games weren't going to sell the machine? What a bizarre idea...

Have you tried using one? I can't begin to imagine what Netscape would be like running on one of these things!

Fortunately for me I am in Holland, so I don't know P&P to other countries.

On his german auction he says shipping to Germany is 13,50 euros. I expect prices to other european countries to be somehwhere in that league.

That's the one. You don't see them that often, so as a collectors item it's quite nice. Am I going to use it more then one time? Hmmm, don't think so. Then again it does feature a PCMCIA slot so it can be hooked up to a network. Would make a nice terminal :D Maybe there is still some fun to have with this "console" ;)

Yeah... I would probably also buy it if I fell over it at a garage sales... And it was cheaper (although already cheap).

How about some SPECS?

Wonder if your actually able to run c64 games from else where on it (roms)? Probably not - since they wouldn't be able to justify it back in 1999 (you all the copyright issues)

From what I understood it's just a software C64 emulator that (almost) runs all C64 games. How (and if) they got around the legal side of things I don't know.

A short but nice interview with one of the people behind this thing can be found here.

No legal problems, they got a license from Tulip. (short story here) Tulip has been trying to make some money out of their C64 rights for years. Apparently they (Tulip) will be releasing a new console (just a joystick you plugin to the tv) playing 30 classic C64 games soon. Information here and picture and story in dutch here.

They say that anything that runs under DOS 7.0 or Windows 3.1 also runs on this thing. So with the correct drivers it should be possible.
