Worried About Buying From Gbax

The problem is that gbax isn't actually selling any PSPs, they are throwing you off onto another site without warning. They now say it's an external link, but they still don't say it's in hong kong. The company there does all the order for you, and just give GBAX a nice percentage for directing customers towards them.

What isn't very nice is that gbax have negotiated with the company in HK to setup this page, included the "fully inclusive prices" thing, "1 year warranty", etc, stated all the prices in UKP, and not once state that your actually ordering from a company in HK. As soon as you complete your order, all the UKP magically disappears and is converted to dollars. Asking gbax about any of this normally falls on deaf ears - you either don't get a reply at all, or get something completely unrelated to your question like "yes it's been shipped".

Not suprisingly, if you visit the company gbax actually use, it's cheaper to use them direct than gbax. There is no advantage of using gbax whatsoever, as even the 12 month warranty is with the hong kong company.

GBAX used to have a very good reputation, but they seem to be quickly losing it with tricks like this, and then basically telling there customers to get stuffed when they complain.

What are you going to do Squidge, tell GBAX to give you the money back?

I would.

I would.

I asked that very question 4 times. I didn't get any answer at all, then when I mentioned I was going to take it up with a third party, I got the following response:

As the PSP was not purchased from our website I can not help with the transaction amount, I can only presume that the difference is due to the exchange rate at the time of processing. I appreciate in the previous email you were informed that you should not have to pay import duty but as this is the information which was given to us when we contacted the company we are unable to do anything further with regard to this.

With reference to the statement on our website

"All goods shipped worldwide from the UK" and "No unexpected import duty to pay"

this information is relevant to our site not to a linked site.

So, they are basically telling me it's nothing to do with them and clear off, even though it wasn't mentioned that it was a linked site, and gbax are making a nice profit on psp's purchased in this way.

Needless to say, asking the company it was shipped from gets no response either.

EDIT: Typo.

Wow. What's happened GBAX? I always recommended you to friends, families and even foes...but now?

Squidge, make sure you get copies of the site and take it up with citizens advice or something.

That's just not on.

Already contacted citizens advice, and they said "If the company is being uncooperative, for the amount you will be paying in import duty and vat, it would be cheaper to pay the amount than to try and get the company to pay it".

So, rather than ending up on debtors list with DHL demanding money from me, I decided to pay it. Some other people I've spoken to have chosen other options (one says he told DHL to send the invoice to GBAX!), but I don't think they are going to get any luck.

wow, thast actualy a nice way to ruin your reputation realy fast.
many have allways sugested them and now they pull something like this.
gues i have to get my gpx2 elseware.

It's not GBAX fault Sony was sueing them.
If craig hadn't reacted that fast, there would probably be no GBAX anymore (and maybe even no gpx2, at least not the way we know it).

So they still are reliable, it's Sony's fault.

Yes but they should be upfront about where you are actually buying it from. People buy from GBAX because they want to use a UK seller.
I don't know if they do it on purpose but there are a few things that they need to improve on.

Naaah, THAT fact is known. He's talking about something different.
He even didn't tell me that, but it's well-known that Sony sued mostly all british
retailers who sold an import PSP and it's also known that GBAX directly sold all PSPs - and a few days after these news all the PSP sold through GBAX come from a Hong Kong reseller (some here on the boards reported).

So I just added 1 and 1 - not that hard to figure out he did this because of Sony problems... if he actually got sued or not, I have no idea, but I'm pretty sure that's the reason (what else could it be??)

An independent computer store in my town was selling imported PSPs, so Sony contacted the guy and said "right, that'll be £2500 for each PSP you've sold." He'd only sold ten, but twenty five grand later... bye bye shop.
