The Dutchmaster
One of my favorite pick-up-and-play games, Wild Guns for Super Nintendo is a western themed shooter reminiscent of Dynamite Duke (gameplay wise) which was for the genesis. It was developed by Natsume
Graphics: 9/10
I liked the graphics in this game alot. Perhaps its just the nostalgia, but the sprites are well animated and fluid, and the western backgrounds are nice as well. The combination of the old west and technology make a good pair in this shooter.
Sound: 8/10
The sound in the origional was very good. The music (also western themed) was catchy and the sound effects were impressive as well. Unfortunately you cannot enjoy the music on your gp, its simply too slow with it enabled.
Gameplay: 10/10
I love this game. The only reason I'm writin the review is so that others may try it out and find out how fun it is. The characters and the reticule are moved simaultaniously, which can get awkward at times, but its very fun. The stages are fairly short (6 in all) but diverse. The difficulty also tends to ramp up, but not to the point of insanity (there are also infinite continues). In addition, two characters are selectable, though there is no difference between them.
Powerups in the form of different guns can be picked up (a rifle, t-gun, and an automatic) and a meter on the bottom half of the screen fills up (it takes a good amount of time to do this) as you kill enemies. Once the meter is full, you become invincible and get a special gun to wax enemies with. Other moves include a double jump, dodge, bomb (x button), and freeze (integral to the game). In order to freeze opponents, rapidly press the fire button until you begin to swing a blue lassow. Letting go fires it and if it hits an emeny they become frozen for a sec or two.
Playability: 8/10
Sound must be OFF in order to play this game. It runs very well at 166, but is fine at lower clock speeds as well. Two player gameplay was the best part of this game- ofcourse you all know that this is an unfortunate casualty of the gp.
FINAL SCORE- 9/10
