Who's Dev'ing For This Machine?

I need to see more from gamepark to believe that they will actually be releasing this thing... ;)

Well, you'll be waiting a while longer I'm sure since 'proving' they are serious about development is no doubt low on their list of priorities. If anything, they regret the delays involved in bringing the original XGP design to the public. Their goal now is to release GPKiDS, then select the internal hardware specifications best suited to what is required now-- the old hardware is outdated-- and releasing the best handheld they can. They want to avoid the kind of faults that plague the GP32 and to a much greater degree the GP2X, and release the most solid product possible.

I'm sure their approach will invite plenty of Duke Nukem Forever jokes. However, I'd rather see GP release a solid handheld later, than a shitty handheld sooner.

Can't you see what's going on here? The hardware that is alright for them to use today will also become outdated by the time they integrate it in their design and it hits production lines. Their thought process caught them in a vicious circle, they should just decide on something and go with it. Great software does not need horsepower and hardware acceleration, it needs talented programmers with a spark of imagination.

And I bet that when (read: if) they'll release it, you'll be all over us how the XGP has a beefier processor than the GP2X, how it has a better SOC, well no shit, GP played the wait game and probably improved on GP2X's known shortcomings, while GPH spear headed the market and got a decent product out.

Some hardware GP is considering won't be out of date for years to come. I wish I could give you specifics, but I'm not at liberty to. So, I guess you'll have to take my word on that. Bear in mind, however, hardware advancements in the ultraportable consumer electronics scene have not been racing along at the rate of a bullet train in the past few years. The cycle of obsolescence is nowhere near as rapid as that of, say, home consoles or PCs.

This information should be self-evident at that point in time.

They've already said they expect to be releasing the XGP in 2007, after the GPKiDS is 'out the door', and that most of its design is ready, and the remainder of what is to be done involves selection of an exact SoC. Beyond that aspect I'll have to ask for the OK before saying more, but I've posted quite a few e-mails in the General XGP Discussion subforum that might shine light on a few frequent Q's.

Maybe you could get them to change the screen resolution to something more emu friendly. 480 x 272 is just horrid as it doesn't match anything emu or PC port wise. If you can get them to go to 640 x 480 then you would have something.
