Emulators and interpreters at first place, followed by homebrew, commercial (both indie and big name) games, multimedia, and a nice way to get to learn the basics of game programming. :)

Playing emulators
Making Emulators/Games
Listening to music/Viewing movies
Playing homebrew games
Playing 'real' games

In that order and whatnot.

Goes for me as well, and exactly in that order. B)

EMULATION!
then that will be a good thousand games available at good speed with a good screen (my GP32 doesn't reach 166mhz and had a non-lit screen :p )

then , ports and little games when i'll be bored by my SNES, mD/genesis pcengine, or even gameboy classics a good little duke nukem or etc would be nice :D

..... but for me that's mostly all but for multimedia i don't think i'll use it often , considering the size of videos etc ...

Full Speed snes and being able to play video files without conversion (mpeg 2 has to be the worlds slowest format to convert to) on any TV

Emulation and Ports
Media
Homebrew Games

I've got a Pocket PC thats good for multi media and a NintendoDS thats good for playing games. I am hoping the GP2X will keep me amused enough to only have to carry one thing around. I would also like to learn some coding but the only programming I've done was in Basic on an Atari400.

Why would you want to convert TO mpeg 2, besides for a dvd? It's horrible, mpeg-4 is much better and of course of all those other formates (avi and divx).

Yes I know you were talking about not having to rencode, which I like too, but the fact that you said mpeg 2 was weird.

Right now I want it most of all to play emulated games on it, that's how I found out about GP2X. 2nd comes the fact that I can develop for it and that's really something I'm looking forward to do. And I'll be intersted to see if there will be any good games comming for it be it homebrew or more proffesional made. And I'll be using it for some media that's for sure. I would have loved to attach a HDD to it, I wonder if we'll be able to use the USB for that.

About the porn....well....I can see why soem people would want it for that...its portable, and you can use it one-handed.

I have the DS and its pretty cool, but the GP2X is different...its "underground" and I like that...Ive also wanted to work with linux and stuff and im going to try to learn C++ and stuff...

Well you can still rip your movies but use a much more effecient codec and save alot of space. There is absolutly no reason to use mpeg-2 on this handheld,

that's what he said
