Hi

I am starting my next game and would like to know what you think.
The game is based loosely on an introversion game call def-con
Here is a link to the site

introversion make really great games

obviously it’s not going to be as complex but it just reminds me of the film
war games anyway.

Basic out line of the game:

Select a side: red or blue
Select a difficulty level.
The difficulty level will coven a number of things
1) number of assets ie aircraft
2) the population size for each side
3) the speed and power of each asset

you will have 3 minutes to do as much damage as you can
and the side with the largest population at the end wins.

You can cycle through your assets using the left shoulder button and select a targets Using the right shoulder button.

The enemy ai will have 2 modes attack a landmass at all cost or return fire if fired on.

All the countries landmasses will be generated randomly.

Here are some screens I did in photoshop.

I have just started on the coding.

Let me know what you think
Any suggestion would be great too :)

Thanks

By what I can see so far, it's the first of its kind on the GP2X :) The graphics look great, that minimalist, illustration-like style, I love it.

Keep up the good work mac!

From your mockups, the graphics look fab, I hope you keep that style for the finished product. Although I've just started on a game, I don't have much coding knowledge, and can't offer many tips at the moment, all I can say, however is good luck!

I really like Defcon. The game is simple but very immersive.
I also really liked the black background with all the lightening effects.
Do you think it would be possible to do the same (partially I mean) on Gp2X?

Good luck for your project, I will follow it closely.

what a great idea

i like the 3minute rule too.
I find the best games on GP2x are the short (sometimes-puzzle) type games..for the shorter subway travels.

liscening issues aside,
I'd love to hear that erie "Shall We play a game" from Wargames the movie upon startup!

Hey...maybe I'll make that my GP2x start up sound!
;)

Thanks for the words of encouragement

I have been working on some test code
To make sure I can get the look and feel
Of the mock ups here is a pic

I’ve still got loads to do but at least
I know I can get the game to look right.

I've got to find a crappy voice synthesiser
The eerie voice would be a really nice touch

Thanks again

check out flite. i say that not because it's crappy but because it's small compared to other engines.

introversion originally copied the 'war games' 'global thermo nuclearwar' game in Uplink (it was a secret mission where you had to get into the introversion game server, if i remember correctly)

i found the uplink version much more appealing (even tho it wasnt much of a game) i own defcon and uplink and i cant say im that impressed with defcon :/
