Man,(or girl, if you prefer), Kubuntu is THE best OS ever created! I mean, not only do you get the cd's shipped for free all the way from france, but you can also SELL said cd's! And then the actual OS is amazing! I've spent 6 hours setting it up, and the amount of customizability litterally blows my mind

Now...To find games to play...

Your selling linux CD's that you got for free from canonical? You make me sick.

EDIT: Use ubuntu, kubuntu is just KDE slapped on top of a distro centered around gnome.

Heh, its my first linux too! I first installed Fedora Core 5 about 2 weeks ago, but I didn't like it. So I installed Ubuntu 5.10 from a disc. It's the awesomest! Now to upgrade to 6. Unfortunately, this takes over 2 days, and somebody won't let me tie up their phone line 'till next weekend :(

I also got a shitty laptop (p1 200/64mb edo), i tried various distros on it until i found deli linux, its totaly outdatet but extremely fast, i realy sugest you to give it a try.

Oh wow, i just saw that there is a "new" version now, yay. *updateing*

Even if you tell people that they can get the cd for free, some of them don't feel right unless they pay out money for it. At the end of the day, some people just have more money than sense :(

At least it's getting new users into the Linux world. What's wrong with that?
I wouldn't do it myself, but I know that Mark Shuttleworth & the Ubuntu dev's don't really give a damn about people selling it on.

EDIT: Ubuntu's good on most systems but I'd warn people off from using it (for now) if they own a Sony VAIO laptop of the FS/FE ranges.

I've sold burned LiveCDs, but only for the price of the media. So I have the moral high ground!

Glad to see you've switched to Ubuntu. Kubuntu is nice, but the distro is GNOME-based, so maybe you should try apt-get installing ubuntu-desktop (which will give you GNOME and all the relevant apps). Then you can choose which DE you prefer.

For the record, I have both, and I can't decide :(

I just downloded that and will try it on my low end laptop tonight. It's running windows 98 at the moment and it's sooo slooooooow. I'm hoping that deli linux willl be a little nicer on the old thing.

2 other distros that I have found that work well on older laptops (win 95 era) are Puppy Linux (http://puppylinux.org) and Damn Small Linux (http://damnsmalllinux.org).

damnsmall linux is nice (especially for putting on a usb stick :D )

I think ubuntu sucks, I have used debian, ubuntu, suse, redhat and rhel but I think suse and rhel are simply the best :). CentOS, a free derivative from rhel works great too, it has its own update channels etc.

So many assumptions! I said you COULD sell them, i'm personally giving them out to anyone i meet. I mean, 30 cd's for free, and more on the way, i can paper the town in them.

In other news. I tried the Gnome desktop initially, but found that i disliked it immensly so i switched to the KDEtop instead. It has far more functionality IMHO. It also runs very fast on a 4.17ghz cpu :p

If people pay money for discs that you get for free, why NOT sell them and make money? Give me a fucking break with your 'im too righteous to do that kind of thing' mentality. Get off the horse already.

What would you say if people were making money selling homebrew GP2X games and emulators ?

I'm a firm Ubuntu fan, I have it at work, at home, and on my laptop. It's the most usable OS I've had the pleasure of running, and I couldn't be happier. Still boot into Windows for games, of course :)

I would say good for them. It's not hurting me in any way, why should I care? If people are stupid it's their own fault.

currently using Xubuntu and happy. I dual boot with Win2k tho, haven't tho in like over a few months.

EDIT: if you are using Ubutnu I would recommend doing http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=104...amp;postcount=1 , it makes the fonts look much prettier :D. If you use Xubuntu I would recommend doing http://xubuntu.wordpress.com/2006/08/09/ho...fix-xfce-fonts/ . I would also recommend using Swiftfox over Firefox if you use Firefox. http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Dapper is a _huge_ wiki for the Dapper release of ubuntu (6.06, LTS) and is very useful

If people are ignorant of something, maybe you should try enlightening them rather than trying to rip them off.

Especially when the devs wanted their work to be free of charge.

but whatever.

Im sure the devs arent oblivious to the fact that their free work is being sold. They dont seem to be caring as much as you though.
